The Daggers started in the first half and produced most the early pressure, and the outstanding defence, other than Naylor, stopping every attack with ease, Marvin Harriot earning special mention for an assured display at right back. However, for all the pressure, ex-Dagger Paul Newell was not forced into a save for the entire first half. The only shots came from Billericay who had the best chance of the half from a corner but Roberts got down well to turn the ball round the post. The only chances the Daggers created were a couple of headers that went wide and a long range effort by debutant trialist Steve Forbes that sailed over the bar and the stand. The best chance for the Daggers came when Haworth charged down a Newel clearance but Newell tidied up well. The Daggers struggled to get into there stride, Payne and Forbes getting rushed off the ball in midfield and Matt Jones not playing well on the left. Janney tried to make an impact with some runs on the right, and put in a good cross on one occassion but the chance wasn't capitalised on. Naylor also put in a decent cross to the far post but again the Daggers didn't take the chance.
In the second half, the Daggers brought on a whole new eleven bar Forbes. Mark Brennan made another assured display, albeit in a less effective left midfield position. The start of the half was a non-event, both teams cancelling each other out with some good defending and weak attacking. However, Billericay scored the only goal of the game on 65 minutes, a corner dropping at the back post for the attacker to square for Kirk Game to tap in. The Daggers played better after this, although better wasn't neccessarily well. Mark Brennan almost equalised when he hit a left foot volley from all of 35 yards, but his effort smashed against the bar and rebounded away to safety. Paul Cobb also had a chance when he beat the offside trap, but he put his effort over the bar. Paul Terry also had a good chance, but his 25 yard shot was just wide. Billericay almost created a second at the other end, but Paul Nicholls was alert and intercepted well.
