The Daggers can't take many plus points out of this game. Lee Matthews was injured as was McDougald, but that was no excuse for the way the Daggers played.
Danny Shipp could have scored early on when he was unmarked at the back post to meet a low cross but his shot was weak and allowed Gothard to save.
Paul Cobb also tried a speculative effort from an acute angle when Gothard miskicked his clearance straight up in the air and Cobb tried a left foot volley from almost the corner flag. Cobb almost set up a goal when he ran down the left and crossed but nobody arrived to meet it.
Hayes were the better side from this point onwards though and the Daggers were awful. Lee Goodwin completely lost his man from a throw who crossed to the equally unmarked Jimmy Quinn who just let the ball fall onto his right foot and it was in the top corner to make it 1-0.
Roberts had to be alert to save from Baptiste who went through when well offside, but no flag was given and the attempted pass into the corner was stopped by Roberts.
Rocky Baptiste then added a second, although it seemed Vickers diverted it in. Vickers was originally outmuscled by Baptiste, and although he got back, Baptiste's shot deflected off his outstretched leg and went into the bottom corner.
In the second half, Hayes got another within minutes. A long ball saw the Hayes left winger beat Goodwin to it, and as Roberts came out, the ball deflected straight to Quinn who passed into the unguarded net.
However, half-time subs Keen and Gallagher looked like they could turn it round. Keen met a free kick and headed down to Gallagher who passed into the corner.
A potential turning point occured soon after. Gallagher ran with the ball, and when only just inside the corner of the box he was hacked down by two Hayes player but the ref turned down the appeal.
Roberts had to make two great saves to keep the score respectable. He saved another one-on-one as Hayes broke away and then saved another shot low to his right as Hayes again attacked the Daggers unusually poor defence.
Hayes added a fourth eventually though when the original shot came back off the post and Everitt was on the line to score.
