The Daggers had several chances in the first half as opposed to the minimal ones of Hayes but possession was fairly even at the start of the first half. Mark Brennan had two chances early on when he tried to pass a 20 yard free kick into the bottom corner and narrowly missed and then had a long range left foot volley which went just over with the keeper nowhere near it. Matt Jones should have scored when the ball was free near the byline and the keeper's right hand post, but he failed to anticipate the chance and the keeper picked it up. Junior McDougald had a great chance when Janney did well on the right to cross it in low but Junior smashed it against the angle of post and bar whilst under the close attentions of a defender. Drewe Broughton opened the scoring with a well taken goal though. A defender attempted to head a long ball back to his keeper but Broughton stole in the small gap between defender and keeper to meet the header with a side footed volley over the keeper. Mark Janney could have grabbed himself a goal when he went on a run but he dragged his shot wide of the far post. However, Broughton grabbed his second just before half time. He received the ball near the corner of the box before coming inside and teeing the ball up for a super right foot volley which flew over the keeper and dipped under the bar. The only chances Hayes had were a free kick which was charged down and a few corners which were cleared.
The second half was merely a case of preserving their lead for the Daggers, but they still had chances to add to their lead. Broom had two similar opportunities when he burst into the box and shot from an acute angle but both were tipped round for corners. Drewe Broughton had a great chance to grab his hat trick when he was put through the middle but he placed his shot at the legs of the keeper. Broughton was also involved for other reasons though. In an off the ball incident, Broughton was blatantly kicked in the upper body by a defender, and despite the referee missing it, the linesman spotted the offence and the red card was shown. Mark Janney had several chances to score. His first chance was a volley from the edge of the box when the ball was headed out to him but he couldn't direct it well enough. Janney had another chance when a cross from the left was headed out by a defender and he attempted the over head kick but the ball was never on target after coming off his shin. The Daggers then put together a passing chain lasting almost a minute which ten man Hayes could not break. Janney had another chance when he ran down the right, cut inside and chipped the ball over the keeper but it landed just the wrong side of the post. Hayes never really threatened the Daggers and it was three good points in the end.
