The first half started with the Daggers having to get used to the bog-like pitch that squelched beneath the boot, and the condemned stadium that surrounded it. The Daggers did have chances to score though, with the soaked pitch holding the ball up well. Janney was nearly put through early on, but hom keeper Wilmot was off his line quickly to clear into touch. Ashley Vickers had a good effort sail wide when the ball came out to him from a corner and he hit a great left foot drive that skimmed along the surface, ending up just wide. Hendon should have had a player sent off early on, for a double foul. The first was a disgraceful hack on Lee Matthews after he had beaten him on the edge of the box, which he received a yellow for. The second was when he pulled Junior McDougald back after being turned but the referee didn't see fit to show the red. Hendon looked quite good going forward though, and found room behind the full-backs for most of the early period. On 26 minutes, they exploited this when they got down the right wing and drove the ball across the box which was flicked over the diving Roberts at the near post. Junior McDougald was having a good time up front, using his speed and control to make some good runs and get some crosses in. It was not long before the Daggers got back level. Paul Terry did some great work, weaving through a crowded box before prodding to Broughton who shot under the advancing keeper to equal the scores. The Daggers started to dominate more after this, but Hendon did have a chance when Roberts made a double smother at the feet of a striker. Junior McDougald tried his luck from 20 yards when he spun his defender but the ball was caught by the keeper. Drewe Broughton also had a chance when he was almost put through but the keeper was once again alert to clear into touch. The keeper was not convincing on crosses though, and dropped two corners during the half which were both cleared.
After the fans had navigated through the condemned stand to swap ends, the match resumed. The first part of the half was quite dull with neither side creating many chances. Junior McDougald continued to hassle the defence by chasing all the long balls from defence, as it was too difficult to play football on the 'pitch'. On the hour, the match sparked into life. A free kick was awarded to the Daggers on the keeper's right hand side of the box. Paul Terry dummyed a run inside and Broom dummyed down the line, and the wall was sufficiently disrupted for Matthews to hit a monster strike into the keeper's bottom right corner of the net. This seemed to put the Daggers into life. Mark Janney started to come into it more, and made 3 good runs down the right before pulling the ball back, unfortunately all of them were cleared. Another nasty foul occured on the other side of the box towards the end of the match. Mark Janney was absolutely pole axed when virtually through on goal, the referee gave the kick, but issued not even a yellow card. Hendon could have got back in it though, if not for woeful shooting. A corner came out to Hendon player who sliced well wide of Roberts' left post, and when another Hendon player was put through on goal, he sliced a good 2 metres wide on Roberts' other post. With 15 minutes remaining, Paul Terry sealed the game with an amazing strike. He picked up the ball on the keeper's left hand side of the box and with the keeper slightly advanced from his line, hit a superb 25 yard left-foot curler which went as far into the top right hand corner of the goal as possible. Drewe Broughton could have scored when he bundled throught to meet a loose ball but the keeper parried his low shot.
