The Daggers were under pressure for much of the first half and hour, Hereford's long ball attacks giving our defence some problems. Hereford forced a number of corners which were dealt with well by the defence. However, on 13 minutes Hereford took the lead. Paul Terry scuffed a pass and gave the ball away to a Hereford left winger who played in Gavin Williams who took it in his stride and lashed the ball into Roberts' top left hand corner. Hereford would have had two but for a good save from Roberts who held a powerful volley through a crowded penalty box from one of Hereford's numerous corners. The Daggers started to come back into it towards the end of the half and could have scored when Brennan hit a long range shot which was gathered low down by the Bulls' keeper. Another Brennan long range shot was woefully off target after the ball bobbled before he struck it, almost hitting the corner flag. The Daggers had two corners in a row which almost resulted in a goal, the penalty area scramble just being cleared off the line by Hereford. Close to the end of the half, the Daggers got the equalizer. A run by Janney was fed to Brennan who hit a low shot which the keeper could only parry, and Terry was on hand to score. Terry could have put the Daggers ahead moments later when a carbon copy of the previous chance was somehow rolled wide of the goal.

In the second half, it was a much more convincing Dagenham team who took to the field. Drewe Broughton almost scored with a header which looped up and although the keeper seemed in control, he only just managed to push the ball over the bar. The Daggers had several corners in this half and it was from a corner that the Daggers had several chances to score a second. A Paul Terry cross was directed towards the unmarked Broughton and Matthews who with free headers did not communicate and both jumped, only contriving to send the ball wide and clash heads. Paul Terry almost curled another corner in at the far post, but it just skimmed the head of a defender and was just wide. Cole had a chance when he rose with a defender and despite winning the ball could not get enough height to score. The Daggers got it right from a Mark Brennan corner though. The ball was curled into the far post and Cole was on hand to rise above the rest and power in a header from an acute angle. The Daggers had more chances to score after this. Cobb should have scored when he was fed by Terry and unmarked in the middle but he hit his shot first time and it was easily picked up by the keeper. Brennan nearly scored a free kick but his curler was tipped over. Broughton also had a chance from a header but it was saved. The only chance Hereford had was a long range effort which was just wide.
