The Daggers were not at their best in the first half and there were chances at both ends. The Dagger had the first when new boy Tony Lock crossed from the right and Shipp came in at the near post but couldn't divert the ball goalwards.
Morecambe had a great chance when they put in a low cross to the far post and the unmarked striker some how managed to place his shot against the bar, and the rebound put well wide.
Danny Shipp had a great chance when Matt Jones easily beat his full back and whipped in a cross but Shippy's header was somehow wide when he was unmarked and only 5 yards out.
Morecambe were not going to let themselves be overrun though, and had a great chance snatched away by some great recovery work at the back. An unmarked striker was just about to shoot from 6 yards out when Goodwin came from nowhere to rob him of the ball. Robbo tried to claim the loose ball and failed, and when the cross came in and it was headed goalwards, Robbo was up and across to catch the ball with an outstretched right hand.
Junior McDougald had a very similar chance to Shipp's after that. Jones again crossed well to McDougald at the far post who headed inches wide with the whole goal to aim at.
Towards the end of the half, the Morecambe keeper made a great save to deny Tim Cole. Cole met a deflected cross on the overhead kick and the visiting keeper got down to save and hold the ball.
The only bad points of the half was when Morecambe twice committed fouls on the edge of the box on Jones and Lock. Lock was hacked down after going past his full back and another defender went straight through the back of Jones after the ball had gone, and on both occasions the Morecambe players protested the decisions.
In the second half, the Daggers could have scored several. Paul Terry had a great chance when he went through on goal and chipped his shot over the keeper but also over the bar. The Morecambe keeper followed the example of his colleagues and protested for offside afterwards and was booked for his efforts.
Danny Shipp also had a double chance when McDougald went on a left wing run and cut the ball back to him. Shipp's first shot was saved by the legs of Smith and the rebound was weakly placed into the stranded keeper's arms.
However, the Daggers gifted Morecambe a goal soon after. Roberts had the ball passed back to him and he tried to beat the forward but as he did so the ball bounced off a divot and back behind him straight into the path of Talbot who passed the ball in.
The Daggers got straight back in the game though when Tim Cole met a Paul Terry free kick and it came of his back and went past the keeper to make it one-one.
However, only five minutes after Cole's equaliser, the Daggers gave away a goal again. A weak header was put straight into the path of Talbot and he flicked the ball over the advancing Roberts from a couple of yards to give Morecambe the lead.
The Daggers again came back into the game though and Lock had a got run and shot ended with a block in the six yard box from a defender.
Paul Cobb also had a great chance when he went through and put his lob against the post and out into the keeper's arms.
Morecambe's defence indulged in a game of volleyball after this though. Cole challenged the keeper in the air and he dropped the ball but it was punched clear by a defender, and somehow the referee, only 5 yards away from it, missed it.
However, the Daggers got the penalty they deserved soon after when Tim Cole went through and rounded the keeper and was pulled down, and again the Morecambe players did their ritual of protesting to the referee, but it didn't work as the keeper was shown his second yellow card and then the red. Morecambe's reserve keeper came on, but he couldn't keep out Cobb's superb penalty.
The Daggers kept at it though and with only a couple of minutes of injury time remaining, Cole met a cross and sent back across goal where Cobb was waiting to head in from a yard out.
