The Daggers were largely outplayed for the first 15 minutes of the first half, Nuneaton squandering two good chances when they really should have taken the lead. This allowed the Daggers to come back into with some good chances of their own. The first chance for the away side came when a forward evaded two defenders and shot against the post with enough time to place his shot between the posts. The second of the away side's chances was probably a little easier, a forward going through and missing the target. The Daggers came back into the match after these early scares and thought they had the lead when Goodwin headed home a Brennan corner only for the referee to blow for pushing. McDougald had a good chance to score when Janney burst through the middle and flicked Junior through, but his shot was just wide with a defender in close attendance. Goodwin had another headed chance before half time, which he headed over from the corner of the six yard box. Mark Brennan almost gave the Daggers the lead with a great free kick from 25 yards which just went wide of the 'keeper's left hand post. Nuneaton had one final chance before half time, but a long range effort was easily caught by Roberts.

The second half was a mainly even affair to start with, before Nuneaton took the lead through Mark McGregor. An original shot was blocked after some slack defending, and the rebound fell to the £35,000 man who slotted beyond Roberts and Cole. The Daggers started to assert themselves after this, and had some good chances. Janney, transfered to the left wing in the second half, almost equalised with a fantastic curling right foot shot which skimmed the far post on its way wide of the goal. Steve Heffer should have done better with a long range effort which he blasted over the bar, and wasunfortunate with another which was blocked by a defender. The Daggers did find the equaliser eventually though, coming through new signing Stafford Browne formerly of Welling and Billericay who had been training with Yeovil. After a scramble in the away defence's box, a drop ball was given, and Goodwin touched it forward before a steaming tackle on an away defender broke to Browne who toe-poked the ball inside the 'keeper's right hand post. The Daggers could have gone on to win, Goodwin putting another flag-kick wide and some good play going unrewarded. Roberts was called into action once during the half, a long range effort not powerful enough to trouble the ex-QPR man.
