The Daggers tried out a wingbacks formation in this game, with three centre back, three in midfield and two up front. Forbes and Gallagher were given rare starts and Matt Jones played up front with in-form Cobb.
The Daggers didn't waste any time to take the lead. Within seven minutes, a Jones corner was headed goalwards by Tim Cole and the ball nestled in the bottom corner of the goal.
Southpoirt tried to hit back, and went close when a cross was met inside the box and volleyed across goal, just clipping the post as it went wide. Roberts was also forced into his only save soon after when a similar shot was thism time straight at him.
Lee Matthews tried to make his mark on the game when he went on a surging run from inside his own half, and powered past several defenders before shooting low, but home keeper Dickinson was able to hold it.
Danny Hayzelden, looking lively on the left, almost set up a goal when he beat the full back easily and whipped the ball across, but Cobb couldn't quite meet it.
In the second half, the game was even more of an end-of-season nothing match than in the first half, both teams happy to play at a slow pace in their own halves.
Paul Terry did have one effort when he came forward with the ball and tried to chip the keeper, but his shot was just over the bar.
One of the best chances of the game fell to Gallagher though. Some good work on the right ended in Paul Cobb curling in a cross which Gallagher met at the far post, and as he looked ready to sidefoot home, he missed the ball and the attack broke down.
The Daggers had another chance when the home keeper was challenged in the air from a cross and fell to the ground in a heap. Janney picked up the loose ball and could only fire at the keeper who managed to put a hand up in the air to stop it, and with the keeper still floored, Janney again had a chance but his cross was too hard.
Southport nearly hit back near the end when they shot from inside the box, but the ball came back off the post. All in all, a relaxed end to a great season. Well done lads.
