In the first half, the Daggers dominated with ease, the German side Witten proving no match as was the case in last season's reverse fixture. New signing Mark Brennan made his debut amongst the trialists, as the Daggers fielded an under strength side. Goodwin came in at centre back for the injured Ashley Vickers, Broom switched to left back, and Devereux, Harriot and Nicholls all made starts. It took quarter of an hour for the Daggers to take the lead however. Junior McDougald grabbed his first, although somewhat messily, when a good Devereux cross hit him on the legs and went in. Devereux, although not the greatest of players, was having a field day with crosses from set plays and in the space he was being allowed on the right, and almost set up a goal from a free kick. A inswinging cross was met firmly by McDougald who just failed to score. Unfortunately for him, he was forced to go off after being caught in the face by a Witten player. Lee Goodwin continued the scoring though, when a good corner and slack marking let him drift away at the back post and head in. Junior McDougald grabbed his second when he was put through on goal and he easily rounded the keeper and slid the ball in. With about five minutes left of the half, Payne grabbed his goal when some slick interchanging of passing with the cultured Mark Brennan let him easily tap in a good cross from the right.

In the second half, Witten were substituted for SV Brommen with only a couple of the first half players remaining in the new line-up. Brommen were far better than their predecessors, actually managing to push the Daggers back for the first five minutes. The Daggers then decided to move up a gear, and from then on mostly dominated. Rob Haworth grabbed his second goal in as many games when Mark Janney, on for Devereux, skinned his full back and pulled a great cross back for Haworth to head home. Mark Brennan once again controlled the half in midfield, seemingly having acres of space and loads of time to pick his pass. The final two goals were grabbed by Paul Cobb. After missing one good chance after first coming on when played through by Janney, he made up for it with two cool finishes. The first was after some great inchanging of passes between Brennan, Broom and Jones, leaving him to just toe-poke the ball under the keeper. The second Cobb goal was a penalty. Janney burst into the box with his rediscovered pace and was hacked down, a reflection of how the game had developed into a game slighty too intense for a friendly. Cobb claimed the ball and then placed it inside the keeper's right hand post with the keeper diving the wrong way. In the last quarter of an hour, many substitutions were made by the Daggers, Naylor on in midfield, Heffer on at the back with Scott Holding and trialist Lee Luscombe up the left. Lee Luscombe missed a good chance deep into the second half, when Paul Cobb flicked a pass over his shoulder and Luscombe's chip was a little too powerful. The German side started to threaten slightly more after this, and were denied several times by offside decisions. With just two seconds left, they did score though, breaking the offside trap to steer past Paul Dennis.

D & R: Paul Nicholls (Paul Dennis), Marvin Harriot, Tim Cole, Lee Goodwin (Steve Heffer), Jason Broom (Scott Holding), Robbie Devereux (Mark Janney), Mark Brennan, Derek Payne (Dominic Naylor), Matt Jones (Lee Luscombe), Junior McDougald (Paul Cobb), Rob Haworth (Danny Shipp).

Man of the Match: Mark Brennan, apart from being one of he only players to complete the match, his passing was a joy to watch.
