| 14/06/2001 |
| At the Nationwide Conference Extraordinary General Meeting at Rushden & Diamonds today, decisions on promotion to and from the Conference were made. It has been decided that the winner of the Conference will no longer be promoted automatically. Instead they will go into a play-off final. They will be joined in the final by the winner of play-offs between teams finishing 2nd-5th. The winner of the play-off will go up. It was also decided that after next season, the Conference will only accept the same number of promoted teams as are promoted from the Conference to the League. Under the current system, that would mean only one team going down from the Conferece and only one team replacing them. Conference chief John Moules was in jubilant mood, saying the plans, "put the Conference at the forefront of new ideas." |
