After being released earlier this month, Jason Broom has joined Grays, who will promotion hopefuls in the Ryman League next season, after making several good signings. Matt Jones has also found a club, joining Canvey Island on a two-year deal. Ken Charlery has moved to Farnborough with ex-Dagger Garry Butterworth and Dean Hooper has joined Aldershot.

Awards

Garry Hill has been named joint manager of the year along with Steve Evans. Mark Stein, Mark Smith and Tony Roberts were all named in the Conference Team of the Season, which is voted for by the 22 managers.

Ken Gone

Ken Charlery has had his contract terminated by mutual consent, after Garry Hill told the big striker that he didn't feature in his plans.

Home Nations Update

Tony Roberts' Wales team have won the Home Nations Tournament after a 5-2 win in their final game against Ireland. Robbo played in all 3 games. England disappointingly came 3rd in the competition, with the Daggers' Junior McDougald playing in all three games, starting the first and coming on in the second two. England and Wales drew 1-1 in the opening games, before Wales won their remaining two and England only managed a win and a loss.

Stein Signs
14/05/2002
The Daggers have clinched the services of Mark Stein for a further season after he signed another 1 year contract this week. Despite other offers, including from the Football League, Mark has decided to stay with the Daggers.

Wirral Programme Awards

The Dagenham matchday programme has been voted 28th in the whole of non-league in the Wirral Awards announced today. The programme, superbly put together by Dave Simpson, gained 165 points, as Redhill won the award with 218 points. The top thirty is as follows: 1. Redhill - 218 Pts 2. Hoddesdon Town - 206 Pts 3. Vickers Signs

Ashley Vickers has signed a new two year contract with the Daggers. The big defender came third in this season's Player of the Year award.

Only One Dagger For England

John Owens has named his squad for the forthcoming Home Nations Tournament to be held at Boston and Kettering. The only Dagger included is Junior McDougald, and whilst player of the year Smith, and other top performers such as Goodwin, Hill and Stein have been ignored, places have been found for ageing Grays player/coach Mark Stimson, and Burton duo Stride and Webster. Also, Boston have no players in the squad despite winning the title, and Doncaster only have one player, Ryan, in the squad. Players Released

The Daggers have announced the release of Jason Broom, Matt Jones and Mark Brennan. Broom served the club for all of its 10 year existence and also Redbridge Forest before this, and is a true legend among Daggers fans. Jones joined with manager Hill and has taken it in turns with Broom to play on the left of midfield. Brennan also joined with Garry Hill but his period at the club was sadly injury plagued. The Club and DaggerNet wish them all the best for the future.

Colchester Friendly

The Daggers will play Colchester United in a friendly at Layer Road on Saturday 3rd August with a 3:00pm kick off.

Hill Award

Garry Hill has won the Manager of the Month award for April. He has won the award three times this season. The team's record in April was: P8, W6, D1, L1, F13, A5, Pts19.

Robbo In Home Nations Cup

Tony Roberts has been called up to the Wales Semi-Professional Squad for the forthcoming tournament between England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. The games will take place at Kettering and Boston. Roberts looks set to be first choice after Pennock moved into the league with Rushden last season. His first game will be against England on May 14th at Boston, 7:30pm, with more games on the 16th against Scotland at Kettering (7:30pm) and against Ireland on 18th May (2:00pm). Other players of note in the sqaud are Paul Parry, Tony James and Gavin Williams from Hereford, and Lee Woodyat from Chester City.
