The Daggers never really got started in this game, but the chances they had, they scored, and at the other end, Basingstoke spurned chance after chance. The Daggers started with a strange 3-4-3 formation that didn't really work and Basingstoke made most of the early running.

Basingstoke almost scored immediately, as the 3 defenders seemed unsure of their positions, and a run down the right was only halted just inside the box after most of the team had stood and watched the winger walk past them.

However, the Daggers had an attack, and found themselves one-nil up. McDougald was played through and beat the offside trap, and after flooring the keeper with a dummy, passed the ball into the open goal.

Basingstoke were much the better side for ost of the half though, and almost scored when Newbery met a low Sumner cross and diverted it goalwards only for Roberts to pounce on it.

Sills forced another save from Roberts with a low shot from the edge of the box that the home keeper did well to hold on the slippery surface. Eaton was then halted by a mixture of Goodwin and Roberts as he met a cross and headed goalwards only for the ball to hit Goodwin and go into Robbo's arms.

Eaton then missed a superb chance to put the scores level. The defence took their time over a clearance and it rebounded to Eaton who snatched at it and shot well over the bar from 10 yards.

Just before half-time, the Daggers had a second attack and scored a second goal. Charlery was played through and shot across Tarr. The ball came back off the post but Bristow was rushing back and it hit him and went in.

Basingstoke had time for one last chance as a corner was headed wide at the far post. The second half was a better performance from the Daggers, and they created a few decent chances, but Basingstoke were not about to give in and gave the Daggers some worrying times at the back.

Charlery just failed to get on the end of a cross as the Daggers pushed forward, and Charlery completely missed another cross with his head before making contact with another cross but putting the ball well over.

At the other end, Basingstoke created some more chances though. Eaton, not having his best day in front of goal, cut inside and scuffed his shot, the ball dribbling wide of the post from 6 yards out.

The scoreline was made to look even more distorted as Charlery sealed it. Shipp put in a pinpoint cross from the right wing and Charlery was alone at the back post to steer it across the keeper on the volley and into the net without breaking stride.

Tarr had to make two superb saves as Stein went through and shot towards the top corner but he palmed it behind for a corner, and again from Hill's close range shot, getting down well to block.

Basingstoke had one last chance to try to rescue the scoreline a little, but Roberts blocked with his body as he rushed out to stop a shot from the side of the box.
