A win for the Daggers, but not just any win, a win that takes then seven points clear at the top of the Conference and gives them a psychological lift in the battle to take the championship and get into the Football League. It was a hard fought victory, in which both sides did more graft than playing, but it may worry Steve Evans' men that they struggled to get so much as a goalscoring chance.
The Daggers started with the same sort of formation that had started at Yeovil, a 3-5-2 but with the right wing back more defensive than Jones on the other side of the field. Both sides featured players that had played for the opposition this season, Charlery in the Daggers' line-up and Rodwell in Boston's.
It started as scrappy game as both sides didn't want to give away an early goal, but the Daggers did have more of the play. Paul Terry tried to register an early shot but as he cut in from the left his shot was well wide of the goal.
Dean Hooper did force a save from the keeper though when he broke into the box and fired in a shot which Bastock did well to save at his near post. At the other end, Roberts didn't have a save to make, other than to pounce on two low crosses and watch some long range shots clear his crossbar.
It was a game unsuprisingly devoid of chances as both teams tried to keep it tight at the back, and the Daggers did this superbly as they repelled everything Boston put in their vicinity.
Bastock had to tip away a Daggers free kick as the home side found their range, but he could do nothing shortly before half time as the Daggers took the lead with what was to prove the decisive goal.
Matt Jones swung over a free kick, it was flicked on and Vickers was there at the backpost, unmarked, to fire home with his right boot for his third goal of the season and of his Daggers career.
The second half saw Evans bring two new players into the fray, with Simon Weatherstone one of the players leaving the field, probably to Garry Hill's relief. Boston did create more chances in the second period but still they struggled to hit the target.
Paul Bastock had to tip away a header from a corner as the Daggers sought the second goal, but at the other end, Elding didn't convert Boston's best chance. Clare crossed, and Elding seemed to be on course to meet the ball and score but he somehow didn't divert the ball into the goal.
Charlery had two decent efforts against his former club, hitting a right foot volley wide when he should have done better from 18 yards, and hitting another left foot volley over as the ball wouldn't come down for him.
Mark Stein had a great chance as he found himself free at the back post from a cross, but he scuffed his shot into the side netting from 10 yards. Monington reminded the Daggers they still had to be on their guard though, as he thundered a header onto the crossbar from a corner. Boston came forward in the final few minutes and the Daggers had some scary moments with lots of balls into the box, but the defence held firm and the Daggers took the points.
