The injury roundabout continued for the Daggers at the Deva stadium, as did their stint at the top of the Conference. Goodwin and Rooney were out, and Terry and Shipp were both taken off with injury. Danny Hill was welcomed back with Broom into the starting line-up, and McGavin was also missing with injury from the bench.
Chester were no pushovers, and the first half was quite dull, with most of the action in midfield and with only a couple of chances at each end. Chester had a good chance from a corner which was headed just over at the back post.
Chester had another chance when Blackburn was put through and he didn't have the pace to score, being caught by the defence before scuffing his shot at Roberts.
The Daggers did put together some good moves though. Paul Terry had a dipping shot from 20 yards deflected just over before Stein forced a great save out of the home keeper. Some good play resulted in a back post cross being powered goalwards from a tough angle by Stein and Brown saved well.
Stein had another half chance with a volley from 20 yards after another slick move, controlling the ball and hitting a snap shot goalwards that was well over the bar.
Robbo had to make another save from a good effot from the edge of the box before making a great save just before half time. A corner was played into the near post and was flicked goalwards before Roberts got down and across to turn it behind.
The second half was a much more entertaining affair, as the Daggers put together more passing than in the first half and were camped in the Chester half for long periods.
Stein was superb up front all day, and forced a good save from Brown from the edge of the box which he had to turn behind for a corner. Brennan had a good effot from 20 yards just miss the target as his left foot drive flew just wide of the post.
Mark Stein broke the deadlock in the 70th minute though. Mark Janney run at the defence and cut inside. As he neared goal, two defenders tracked him leaving Stein unmarked. Janney flicked the ball outside to Stein who drilled a shot across the goal and into the net at the far post.
The Daggers had another good chance, again from Stein. He was put through and beat the keeper to the ball, however, a defender got back to block his shot towards the open goal.
Janney had a similar chance, but he was just beaten to the ball by Brown after being played through. Janney nearly created another chance when he had time and space to pick his man, but crossed straight at a defender with Stein unmarked in the box.
The Daggers had another couple of wayward shots before Chester made a late surge to try and get back into the game. Beesley wasted two good chances at the end, firing wide from inside the box on two occasions. They got several crosses into the Daggers' box late but all were cleared and the Daggers held on for the three points.
