The Daggers booked their place in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup after a first half demolition job that left Exeter still in the changing rooms. The Daggers exploded out of the blocks and produced three goals on 6, 22 and 43 minutes, and although Exeter came back into it more in the second half, it was job done as far as the home team were concerned.
The siege began very early as Janney slammed well over the top from 25 yards. The football was mostly in the Exeter half and Stein also had a chance when he chested down and fired wide, but he was hindered by a hamstring injury he received within the first two minutes. The shot only made it worse, meaning he had to go straight off.
It seemed to be a bit of a blessing in disguise though, as McDougald, on for Stein, almost immediately created the Daggers' first goal. He ran down the left and sent a superb cross over the keeper, and Janney was on hand to head his first of the season.
Paul Terry came close very soon after as his long shot dipped just over the bar. Heffer had a superb chance to make it two though. A corner was cleared to Smith, who sent a wicked cross through the box, and Heffer at the back post could only send it over from a yard out.
Janney was growing in confidence after his goal, and was instrumental in the chances created by the Daggers. He provided the cross as Charlery headed wide from a few yards at the back post.
However, McDougald made no mistake with his head soon after. A wicked Terry free kick, similar to the one that created Charlery's goal against Margate, was met by McDougald who looped his header over the keeper and watched it drop under the bar.
Danny Shipp seemed to have scored when he tried a curler from 25 yards, with the away keeper rooted to the spot. Charlery also had another chance, as he met another right wing cross but he could only stretch and divert it into the body of the keeper, Van Heusden. Shipp had another chance when his low shot was pushed around the post by the keeper.
Charlery, having by far his best game since joining the Daggers, did get his name on the scoresheet with a few minutes left in the half. Janney beat his defender superbly and put an excellent cross over that was met by Charlery at the back post, and this time he made no mistake to power it into the net.
Exeter almost grabbed one back when Christian Roberts went through but could only steer the ball into the side netting. Exeter's frustration was obvious from one long range shot that was closer to the car park than the goal.
The second half was a case of sit back and relax for the Daggers. Exeter did create a few chances, but nothing compared to those created by the Daggers in the first half. The chances they did get were awfully finished though.
A chip from 20 yards threatened to beat Roberts as Exeter started to come into it, but as Roberts looked round, he was thankful to see it hit the post and go wide.
Rooney did make one mistake that let Roberts in, but the home team's own Roberts came to the rescue as he pushed the powerful shot round the post. Read was one of the worst culprits for Exeter though.
The ball broke to himin box and he turned to shoot with his left foot, but he skewed it so badly that it went well wide. He did try to cover up for his woeful finishing by appealing for a corner though.
Read then had the best chance for the away side as he went through, and although he looked well offside, it didn't matter as his shot went high into the side netting. Roberts had one more diving save to make from an edge of the box curler, but it was just one for the cameras as he gave the crowd a wink.
The Daggers did have one second half chance as Shipp's shot from the edge of the box flashed just wide of the post. It was a fine win for the Daggers though, who thoroughly deserved it for their first half dominance, and they will be the only representatives of the Conference in the third round, a glamout tie at home to Ipswich Town.
