The Daggers were again below par in this game, and were without Ashley Vickers who was suspended. This forced the Daggers into a back three, and the defence looked a little insecure with wingers Janney and Hayzelden playing as wing-backs. The midfield was again lost as Shipp again played in an unfamiliar midfield role. Heffer played in front of the defence.
Southport had some good chances in the first half and could easily have gone in a couple up at half time as the Daggers only registered a single shot, albeit one wide of the goal.
Southport's first chance came as Elam darted across the box and met a left-wing cross at the front post only to knee it wide of the post. This was an early warning that the Daggers didn't accept and Southport had more chances to score.
A corner was met at the back post, and thankfully for Roberts, the header went straight into the ground, taking the pace off it for Roberts to simply catch.
Parke nearly scored soon after. Goodwin left a through ball to run through to Roberts, only to see Parke bear down on it and shoot across Roberts, but Rooney did enough to put him off and he scuffed the shot giving Roberts an easy save.
Roberts did well to deal with a Lane cross that looked to be dipping under the bar, and was thankful when Whitehall's header from a cross went over the bar. The Daggers did finally get a chance of their own though.
Some excellent football starting in midfield ended with Hayzelden crossing for Stein who slammed his volley wide of the goal when he had time to bring it down and score.
The second half was a little better from a Daggers point of view as they managed to pose some sort of goal threat. Parke had the first effort though when he fired over from well out.
Danny Shipp thought he had scored at the other end, as he curled one a from the edge of the box and as Dickinson could only watch, the ball went just wide of the post. Ken Charlery also forced a superb save from Dickinson as he met Janney's cross and powered a header goalwards that the home keeper did superbly well to push over.
Southport always posed a threat as they had cross after cross from the right wing, as Lane got the better of Hayzelden who was struggling to concentrate on his defensive task.
They finally went one up from one of these crosses as they had been promising to do. Whitehall met the cross and guided his header past Roberts.
The Daggers were soon back on level terms though. A poor backpass let Stein in who flicked the ball first time with a his right foot to guide it over Dickinson's dive and into the corner of the net.
The Daggers nearly went on top on the counter attack, as Junior McDougald, on for Stein, met Janney's low cross and shot wide of the goal from just inside the box with only the keeper to beat.
The Daggers did go ahead with what looked like the winner though. Hayzelden's corner was missed by Dickinson, and Charlery was at the back post to volley the ball into the net.
However, in injury time, Southport secured a point. Whitehall again met a cross, and although he seemed to control with his arm, no foul was given and he lashed the ball in via the inside of the post.
