A crowd of over a thousand attended Victoria Road despite Spurs announcing that they would be playing mostly reserves. The only first teamers on show were Alton Thelwell, Simon Davies and Matthew Etherington, all of whom have Premiership experience.

A threadbare Daggers back 3 was exposed for much of the first quarter of the game. Within the first minute, Rooney had a lapse opf concentration and passed the ball to a Spurs forward who ran on only to fall over before he reached Roberts in the home goal.

A combination of poor defence and two of Spurs' better players on show, Etherington and Davies, put the away side one-nil up. Etherington was allowed to run down the left wing and cross. The ball was deflected goalwards and Roberts made a good save low to his left but Davies was on hand to poke the ball in.

The same then gave Tottenham a two goal lead. Etherington again went down the left unchallenged, largely due to the lack of a right back, and he crossed to the back post where Davies smashed the ball into the net past Roberts.

The problem was soon rectified as the Daggers reverted to their usual back four and after the early shock, the Daggers started to play some better football. Danny Hill was instrumental in much of the Daggers' best work, and it was the former Spurs man who played Stein through, who in turn lobbed the onrushing keeper to halve the deficit.

Mark Brennan tried one of his trademark free kicks from the edge of the box which went just wide and Paul Terry also missed a chance when he received the ball on the edge of the box. He shot weakly at the keeper first time when he had the time and space to advance.

At the other end, Tottenham had a chance to get back their two goal cushion but Roberts was off his line quickly to narrow the angle, and blocked the shot before pushing the loose ball behind for a corner.

The second half saw many changes by the Daggers and new arrival Tony Lock was the man who had most of the home side's second half chances.

Lock put two efforts off target, one from the corner of the box which was high and wide, and another that was miles over the top, but he did find his scoring boots to equalise.

A left wing cross was chested into Lock's path by fellow substitute McDougald and the ex-Colchester front man finished low to the keeper's left.

Hayzelden had a half-chance when he was played through but the keeper was quick off his line. McDougald had two chances, one of which he fired over from close the range. His second chance came when he was played through and had time to finish, but he waited too long and allowed the defender to get back and tackle.
