The day after the draw against West Ham, the Daggers were back into action in their pre-season programme. Colchester provided the opposition and put a very strong side out that is likely to start their season next week. The Daggers played many of those that had played the previous day, so this result was pleasing from a Dagenham point of view.
Rapley tested his range early on for the home side and shot wide, but there was a nasty incident soon after. Three players clashed heads in the box and Steve West, the Dagger involved, had to be substituted with Perkins coming on. Soon after, Gothard had to save another Rapley effort as Colchester tried to exert themselves on the game. Pinault missed badly for the home side as well, as he sidefooted a cross wide of the post.
Perkins had the Daggers' best chance as headed a right side corner kick against the bar. Colchester replied with Rapley firing high and wide, and McGleish shooting weakly at Gothard.
The second half didn't really get going, but the Daggers had some good possession. They nearly opened the scoring when Stein went through, but his shot was tipped round the post. From the corner, McGavin made no mistake to sweep a loose ball into the net against his old club. Ashley Vickers was later asked to leave the field after he went through a Colchester player.
With only minutes remaining, just as was the case the previous night, the opposition scored. Colchester snatched the equaliser as Kemal Izzet headed a corner into the net.
