A battling display saw the Daggers through to the Third Round of the FA Cup for the third successive season, although they left it late to win it, after handing Crawley an early lead, and spending much of the rest of the game camped in the home team's half of the pitch. From the draw at Halifax, Heffer was recalled for Pitcher to add more bite to the midfield.

It took just three minutes for the home side to take the lead. The usually reliable Mark Smith controlled a long ball and tried to pass back to Roberts. However, he left it very short and McDonnell curled it round the advancing Roberts and into the far corner. This was their only goal attempt until a good chance right on half time. The Daggers tried to get back in it and this was met with a couple of awful fouls where Daggers players were hacked down, one of which saw Fear leave McGrath in a heap.

McGrath was not put off though and put in some good balls which West tried to convert on a couple of occassions. The equaliser came midway through the half. Terry swung the ball over and West flicked on at the near post. This let in Junior at the back to smash the ball into the top corner with his left foot and get the Daggers back on level terms.

Good chances were hard to come by for the Daggers though despite all their pressure, and they nearly paid the price on half time. Harkin broke down the right and crossed for McDonnell who put his side footed volley just wide of the post from the edge of the box.

The second half saw Vickers replace Smith and more Daggers attack. Danny Shipp fired in a good shot from outside the box which the keeper did well to push away. Junior then had a chance when West did very well to cross and Junior headed just wide of the far post as the ball was just too high for him. Then Paul Terry found himself free in the box and somehow put the ball about 10 yards wide from about the same distance out. Minutes later, Junior broke down the left and pulled it across the pitch to Janney who steamed in and put the ball just over the bar.

Hooper was booked for taking McGrath down, which was just a prelude to his later sending off for a similar but worse offence. Before the red card, there was time for Crawley to hit on the break for a rare shot, when McDonnell headed wide of the post from a pinpoint right wing cross when unmarked and the goal gaping.

With minutes left, it seemed that Crawley were going to escape with a draw, but Janney won the game with just a couple of minutes left. A penalty box melee ended when Janney's weak shot from 10 yards squirmed under the keeper and found the back of the net in similar fashion to the Lincoln game two years ago, where an equally weak Janney shot somehow won the game.
