There was no lack of action in this game between two attacking sides that wanted to win the game. Three goals - and bookings - each, will leave both managers with some big positives and negatives. The Daggers welcomed Vickers back into the first eleven as Smith dropped out after his mistake at Crawley. Gary Fletcher was back for a second loan spell. Doncaster had new boys Beech and Peyton in the squad.
Doncaster started the better of the two sides, trying to exploit Vickers after his nightmare in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Despite this, McGrath had the best chance when he came onto a flick on and controlled well before volleying over the top. Doncaster drew first blood though from a corner. The ball came in and was headed across by Barnes, althoug the ball seemed to take a deflection past Roberts, it was Barnes who was given the goal.
Junior tried to level the scores as he latched onto a flick on and controlled on the chest before his left foot volley was well turned away by Warrington. The Rovers keeper was also in action to push away McGrath's free kick. Both sides were putting in some hard, and often illegal tackles, although Mr Probert was not having the best of time distiguishing between them. Doncaster also seemed rather fond on the handball which went unpunished all day, as was Barnes' incessant arguing.
After these chances, the Daggers did get back on level terms just before the break. The ball was again flicked on by West, and Morley then proceeded to handle the ball into McGrath's path, and he then lashed the ball beyond the keeper off the inside of the post.
The second half continued where the first had left off, and more poor Daggers defending let Barnes in for his second. The ball bounced just outside the box and as Vickers didn't meet it as everybody watched, Barnes had an easy task to volley beyond Roberts to give Rovers the lead for the second time. The Daggers were not to be beaten though, and within just a few minutes they were back on level terms. Some great play with Junior and Janney left the latter to cross and West was at the back post to simply tap the ball in.
West had a powerful shot fly just over the bar as the Daggers pushed on for the win, but he made no mistake when he gave the Daggers the lead with 20 minutes left. A superb ball round the full back from McGrath fed Junior, who squirmed between two defenders and crossed to West who headed home. However, nothing was going to be straightforward in this game, and the game swung again minutes later. Barnes beat Potts and then swung it in despite Heffer's efforts, and Gill came in to glance the ball home.
Almost stright from the kick off, Janney's cross saw West head inches wide, and then with minutes left, Roberts made a good save to his left as Gill broke clear. However, there were to be no more goals in a great game which left a lot to be desired defensively for both sides, but will have pleased the managers from an attacking point of view. Both were disappointed not to have won.
