The Daggers were back with a bang after the loss at Barnet on Boxing Day. Danny Hill was recalled to the line-up and had a very impressive display, along with Tim Cole, making his first league start for over a year, who had an equally impressive game. West was also back due to Junior's suspension, and Potts also made way.
The Daggers were for the most part the better side, and they took the lead just after ten minutes. Paul Wilkerson, so often the bearer of gifts to the Daggers, made no mistake with this late Christmas present, as he brought down Fletcher who was heading away from goal. A penalty was given, but no card, as it wasn't really a scoring opportunity. McGrath sent Wilkerson the wrong way.
For the rest of the game however, Wilkerson made some very good saves and partly redeemed himself in keeping the score down to four. Danny Hill put Fletcher in with a perfect chipped through ball but the front man could only hit the keeper with his shot. Hill then sent Janney away, who was taken out by last man Skinner, who was sent off.
West soon after sidefooted at the keeper from a right wing cross, and Danny Hill also had a curler saved by Wilkerson fairly comfortably. However, for all their possession and chances, it remained 1-0 at the break.
Credit to Gravesend, they came out in the second half ready to battle on with their ten men and made it hard for the Daggers early in the half. Luckily for the Daggers, a lack of creativity meant Roberts' goal was rarely threatened. The Daggers soon got back on top and could have had a hatful. West thundered a shot over the bar, and Danny Hill curled one from the edge of the box with his left that Wilkerson gathered well. However, West made no mistake soon after when Hill sent Janney away and he cut it back for Hill who air kicked and West was on hand to shoot home.
Gravesend were not going to lie down and put a good chance over the bar, but the Daggers continued to attack. Janney's low but weak shot let Wilkerson save as he cut in from the right, and Stein then set up McGrath who pulled back for Stein but he only hit a defender on the line. Stein then headed against the post from a right wing cross, but he made no mistake with about fifteen minutes left as he found himself in lots of space after Hill's superb pass and he slotted under Wilkerson who almost deflected it wide.
Again Gravesend had a rare attack after the goal as Evans somehow didn't find the net when his screamer hit the inside of the angle of post and bar and bounced out. The Daggers continued to threaten though, and it was no suprise when West got his second to finish the scoring,
