The Daggers fielded what was much closer to the first team than in previous games, and turned in a good performance which saw them dominate the game and score at will. However, it didn't look like that would be the case early on. In the first minute, a home striker ran through the defence and despite being tripped by Heffer, the ball somehow found its way past Roberts and into the net.
The Daggers were hinting for goals from them on though, as Paul Terry hit the upright, Perkins smashed a volley well wide, and Terry flashed another wide from long range. Shipp opened the scoring for the away side when he headed in Bruce's pinpoint cross from close range. Shipp had a similar chance at the back post that he put over.
Shipp then hit the post as he hit a curler from 25 yards that beat the keeper all ends up but came back off the woodwork. The Daggers then continued to keep the ball with some nice football for long periods but without threatening the goal. Close to half time, the Daggers took the lead though as Perkins made a great run through the middle before darting to the side, Goodwin put it in his path and he crossed low for Stein to slot home. Perkins impressed with his one-touch passing in the middle of the pitch, and Bruce was also very good with his wing play and crossing of the ball.
Straight after half time, the Daggers went further in front as McGavin slotted Hayzelden's left wing cross into the net at the back post. McGavin had a good second half, and he nearly chipped the keeper as he dribbled through the middle, but he put it just over the bar. Steve West unfortunately hurt the Heybridge keeper as he slid onto McDougald's cross, and it looked as if Gothard may keep goal for the home side, but Banks recovered. There was another incident later on as McDougald collided with a defender as they chased the ball and the home player landed badly and had to be stretchered off.
The Daggers shoudl have had a penalty when McDougald was brought down in the box but a corner was given. The Daggers then went on a scoring spree as they added through West, Hill and McDougald. West slotted in from close range, before Hill added a marvelous goal. He dribbled past several defenders and then put a perfect left foot chip over the keeper from 25 yards that easily beat the keeper. He then made another great run to set up McDougald who slotted home from inside the box.
The game died a bit in terms of goal chances, but Ross Johnson scored in his first game towards the end as he slotted home a low left wing cross from McDougald to make it seven. Ex-Dagger Mitchell Springett had time to show his lack of class for the Swifts, and also David Culverhouse played at centre back.
