Record breaking Daggers made it 11 Conference wins in a row in this game breaking Macclesfield's record of 10 after equalling it last week. It wasn't as easy as it could have been though, and a comeback from 2-1 down was needed to seal the win.

Tim Cole was back in the side as Garry Hill continued with 3-5-2 in Vickers' absence. Potts dropped the bench, and Lee Goodwin made a welcome return from injury and loan on the bench.

The game was suprisingly low key from the start as both sides seemed to be lethargic and the lack of atmosphere in the ground didn't help. Southport were sharper than the Daggers and were first to the ball on many occasions when they shouldn't have been. The Daggers were having some half chances though, Shipp twice screwing the ball wide from the edge of the box, and some good crosses across the face of goal went begging with no forwards on hand. A goalmouth scramble could have produced a goal when Mustafa drilled it into the packed box after Shipp's mishit, but despite several attempts at it, the ball was cleared.

At the other end, Roberts had to gather a header and another two headers from corners went wide of the goal as Southport tried to gain the advantage. It was the Daggers who took the lead through Matthews' first league goal of the season. McGrath's corner kick was put in at the near post and Matthews got in before Dickinson to head the ball into the net. Minutes later, Junior could have added after getting in behind the defence but the angle was against him and he put it wide.

Southport were soon back in it after the break though. A long punt was left by Smith and this let Ashcroft in behind the defence and he finished expertly across Roberts with a low shot whilst evading Cole's last second lunge. Another error soon gave the lead to Southport, this time a rare spill by Roberts.

Mulvaney did well to send the Daggers defence the wrong way with a feined volley, and the eventual right foot volley was straight at Roberts. However, he spilt to the onrushing Howell, who had been the biggest threat all day from left wing back, and he put the ball away to give the home side the lead.

The Daggers seemed to finally get into some sort of coherant play after this shock. Junior started to play after a poor game up to this point and caused problems running at the defence, forcing several corners and getting some attacks going. Danny Hill was the man to equalise though, from the left wing he volleyed the ball goalwards, a presumed cross, and it went over the head of Dickinson and dipped into the far top corner.

After this Junior shot at the keeper after being put through by a good pass, and then McGrath did similar as he ran through, shooting at the keeper who had come out to him. Dagenham couldn't be kept out soon after though, as Tarkan Mustafa scored his first goal for the club. Seconds away from being taken off, he ran down the right and got clear through before finishing low beyond the onrushing Dickinson.

Southport tried late on to get back into it and got some crosses in and forced corners, but the Daggers weren't to be denied with a late goal as they have in the past at Haig Avenue, sealing their piece of history.
