Another one-goal defeat away from home left the Daggers with no away points so far this season. Mark Stein and Danny Shipp were both injured from the last game and so the Daggers played just Braithwaite up front with Danny Hill behind him and brought Mustafa back and pushing Goodwin into midfield despite Chris Piper's return to the bench. Still no place for Meechan who was again benched.
The Daggers were pinned back early by Shrewsbury who were fitter and sharper, something that is becoming a familiar feature of late. Despite having five in midfield, the visitors still had no joy as Shrewsbury's pace and work-rate meant they controlled the game. Aiston on the left was giving Mustafa all sorts of problems and the Daggers were taking to chasing the ball rather than marking their men.
Luke Rodgers shot wide early on and Cramb's shot was nearly latched onto by Rodgers but Roberts was in quicker to save at his feet. Cramb then pulled off Matthews with ease to receive a cross but hammer wide of the target from close range and Greg Rioch's shot was well parried by Roberts from 20 yards.
However, Tolley got the deserved first goal. Aiston beat Mustafa and pulled it across and Tolley's looping header from the edge of the box dropped under the bar to make it 1-0.
With Danny Hill only having one man to aim at when he got the ball in attacking areas, Shrewsbury were coping well in defence, not allowing a single Daggers shot in the first half of the game. Shrewsbury added a second soon after the first. Jagielka put Cramb through who had lost the defence again and he slipped the ball through Roberts' legs as he came out.
In the second half, Shrewsbury again started well but didn't manage much of a goal threat although they did keep the ball in the Daggers' half very well. However, as the half wore on, the Shrews began to lower the pace of the game and allowed the visitors back into the match. Meechan came on to make a striking duo and should have scored from close range but he missed. Bentley did reduce the deficit soon after when Janney and Mustafa combined well with the latter's cross falling for Bentley to volley home from close range.
As Meechan challenged Howie in the air, the ball came loose but as Meechan tried to get up to tuck it away, the prone goalkeeper held him to the floor. The referee wasn't interested at all. Meechan then again got through and shot poorly at Howie. Roberts had to save from Watts to stop the scoreline getting any worse but it wasn't going to get any better either as the Daggers went home pointless.
