Simon Newell takes us through some early memories of the Daggers. Simon along with Geoff Smith, Jeff Williams, Tony Broughton, Ian Powell and Wally Keddie travelled around the Conference and Ryman grounds following the Daggers. Now Simon is behind the scenes with Dave Simpson in the press team looking after the media in the Press Box, updating live updates on the official website for home matches and he is also on the Daggers Supporters Club Committee.

I always remember our first league match at home v Farnborough Town. We won 5-1, it was a great start for us. Indeed it was a great first season for the Daggers. I remember our match v Northwich Victoria in October 1992, we won 4-1. It was 4-0 at half time and our display was fantastic in the opening period with Jason Broom in the starting eleven. Beating Woking 5-1 and drawing 4-4 at home to Slough were two games we enjoyed. And of course who can remember Paul Cavell's overhead kick v Bromsgrove Rovers in the FA Trophy. Staying with Northwich, at the last away match of the season at Drill Field quite a few us travelled in fancy dress (not me), which of course started a yearly tradition.

The next season, 1993/94 was remembered for the 8-1 away win at Woking. Plus we was drawn away to Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Trophy, we won 2-0. We couldn't believe it, as the Harriers were top of the Conference, and in fantastic form. Loads of us travelled to Worcestershire for a great result for the Daggers. In 1994/95 one game that stands out was the Bob Lord Trophy Semi-Final 1st leg at Kettering Town. We took them apart, we won 2-0 but we could of won by more. We eventually lost 2-4 in the 2nd leg at home going out on away goals. During that season we gave another roasting for Woking at Kingfield, this time the score was 5-3. We enjoyed the rivalry with Woking during that time.

In 1996/97 one season that stands out, we finished 4th in the ICIS Premier Division and of course reached the FA Umbro Trophy Final v Woking at Wembley. Even when we were drawn away to Aldershot Town in the final qualifying round we didn't think about a run to the final. Even after Dover Athletic and then Chelmsford City in the second round we thought our run would finish at Morecambe. However it carried on with a Courtney Naylor double in the replay at Victoria Road. Then we were thinking we could do it. The Ashton United quarter-final tie at home, well I remember loads of us behind the goal when Tony Rogers scored the winner in the 90th minute. We all went completely mental. Bodies flying everywhere. Actually talking of bodies flying, it happened in the semi-final 2nd leg at Gloucester City when Mr reliable, Steve Connor blasted home with 5 minutes left to force extra time. Some of us still keep in contact with John Stimson, his great double in the semi final replay was another for the memory vaults. The final itself wasn't a classic but we held our own and were unlucky not to force a replay at Vicarage Road. There must have been 15,000+ Daggers supporters out of the 24,476 attendance.

Finally in April 1998 we won our first honour, at Purfleet of all places in the Essex Senior Cup Final. To my knowledge I think that's the only time I have seen the Daggers win at the Ship Lane Hotel.

Probably one game with stays with our hearts is when we won the Ryman League Championship at Hampton & Richmond. Bodies went flying behind the goal when Junior McDougald scored the winner around 5.00pm with the Daggers down to 9 men.
