LIONS
IN THE FA CUP
back
First Round Proper
Leigh RMI 0 Millwall 3
The Lions progressed through to the second round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1996, but credit due to the non League side, who did not make life easy. Couple that with the difficult conditions and Millwall are just happy to have got this one under their belt.
The Lions were given a dream start when a penalty was awarded
after just 11 seconds, which Neil Harris slotted home comfortably. But from
there on Millwall made the task look difficult, and although there were chances
for Ifill, Moody and Harris, none of them were clear cut and all easily dealt
with.
In fact it was not until Marc Bircham made a welcome return to the fray, that
anything looked like happenning. Marc then made the most of his chance, by
drilling home in the 66th minute to put the Lions two goals up. This was Marc
Bircham's debuit home goal for Millwall. Not only that but Birch was clearly
fired up and indeed looked the best player on the park.
The victory was completed when Paul Moody lobbed the keeper on 75 minutes
and by now Leigh were a brave but spent force.
So Millwall now face Wycombe at the Den on December 9th,
and when asked if he fancied our chances Maggie replied,
"I'd fancy our chances against Man united at home!".
