World-Class Companies Announce Alliance
Cambridge, United Kingdom Nintendo Inc. (USA) and Copydex plc (UK) today proudly announce an alliance that will allow the two companies to combine their assets, and launch their new path to the future. With effect from today, Nintendo Inc. and Copydex plc will co-operate on all matters relating to their existing and future businesses. In the short-term, customers will see little difference in the outlook of these companies, and both will continue to trade as separate companies for the time being; a full merger is planned for the 2001-2002 fiscal year. Michael Monello, CEO of Copydex (UK) plc said, "We're tremendously happy to be working with Nintendo on our future products, and we're sure Nintendo can bring their expertise to our successful glue company. " From August 1, 2000, all new stocks of Copydex's glue produced in their many factories worldwide and used in offices and schools around the world will be relaunched as "Pokedex ", taking on the successful Pokemon brand which has featured heavily in Nintendo's recent video games, lunch-boxes and sheep gut. The Pokemon/Copydex rebranding is part of a concerted effort on the behalf of Copydex plc to increase knowledge of glue, particularly in the eyes of children who research has shown have little or no interest in having fun with glue. "Many of the Pokemon characters have special powers, such as the ability to cast spells or fly. We feel that combining that branding with our already popular range of glues is an ideal, and appropriate move. " As part of their recently announced move into more adult-themed games, Nintendo have also announced plans to launch a Pokedex branded Pokemon game, in which you have to collect and train your Pokedex masters in successful glue usage, from paper joinage to solvent abuse. "Cunting twats, " joked a jovial Bruce Hendshaw, Nintendo's UK spokesperson, reacting to widespread media condemnation of their forthcoming game. "Pokedex: The Game does not encourage young people to abuse solvents in any way. Sure, early stages of the game heavily feature people having immense fun while under the effects of solvents. Indeed, the final stage of the game shows your Pokedex Master dying a slow death from the effects of solvent abuse. " Pokedex: The Game is being aimed at a slightly older audience than many of Nintendo's current fare, which is reflected in the difficulty level of the game; very few of our playtesters have so far got further than stage three, 'Glue Fly Jump-O'.
