Over years of exposure to light and oxygen all photographic prints are subject to chemical changes in both the dyes and silver. This silver halide print of a 1920s family shows the typical deterioration in clarity of a photograph of its age. It is however possible to restore some of the original clarity digitally.

Photographs are normally scanned but the example shown was re-photographed at an oblique angle to cut through a surface sheen that had developed. The computer was then used to distort the image back before re-touching and printing. Not all images can be restored to this extent but most can be significantly improved.

Minor manipulation such as surface scratch removal and colour adjustment will cost around £15. Badly damaged or faded pictures take more time and so cost about £30.

Pictures need to be considered on a case by case basis, so if you have a picture you want to discuss please get in touch through the contact page.
