Women's Press 1997

In the April 1997 issue of Women's Press the following summation was made. If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like this:

57 are Asian
21 are Europeans
14 are Hispanics from the Western Hemisphere
  8 are Africans

51 are females

70 are non-white

70 are non-Christian; 30 are Christian

6 individuals control 50% of the world's wealth - all Americans
70 are unable to read
50 suffer from malnutrition
1 is near death and 1 is about to be born

and only 1 would has a college education

Personal Comments

One of the pains of statistics published in newspapers and magazines is the do not give the source or the source date.

I would maintain that the data is highly suspect when compared to the United Nations publication The World At Six Billion.

I maintain that the data in the above article is of use only in trying to comprehend large numbers rather than for its mathematical accuracy.
