Williams Family Tree

Descendents of James WILLIAMS and Charlotte SUMMERHILL

James Williams, born c.1805 in Aston, Shropshire

The first trace I have of James Williams is in about 1836, by which time he was already married to Charlotte Summerhill. Their first child, William Williams, was born in Wednesbury in this year. Charlotte was originally from Saul in Gloucestershire and I do not know how she and James came to meet, nor where they married, although her parents had moved to Tipton by 1825, Bilston by 1832, were living in Wilden in 1841, Wolverhampton in 1851 and Kidderminster in 1861.

By 1837 James and Charlotte had moved to Rawmarsh in Yorkshire, where they stayed until at least the 1841 census. By 1843 they were in Lower Mitton (Stourport) in Worcestershire, where they more or less remained until they died.

Most family members were ironworkers, thought to be working for E P & W Baldwin Ltd, who had works at Wilden in Worcestershire, Wolverhampton in Staffordshire and Swindon in Staffordshire. It's no coincidence, I suspect, that the family moved from Wilden to Wolverhampton to Swindon, where some branches still remain today. The tree below shows the family as far as I'm aware for three generations. Later generations are omitted from the tree for reasons of privacy - please contact me if you want information on more recent generations or think that we may be related.
