Accuracy Policy

A specific code of ethics is being used in order to provide accurate and credible transsexual information on the Internet. This policy for content presentation at www.transsexual.org.uk addresses one of the internet's main issues: maintaining the reliability and credibility of information through following standardised guidelines in making information available on the World Wide Web.

In a remarkably short period, the popularity of the internet has made it one of the most widely used communication media. This universal appeal is especially felt amongst those seeking transsexual based information, guidance, and services alike. The internet provides a gateway to an immense amount of data to those who might otherwise hesitate to explore and resolve these very personal issues.

With the growing ease of web site publishing, anyone can create a web site and publish any kind of data, regardless of quality or accuracy, which is then accessible to all. As a result, transsexual information available on the internet within the UK and worldwide, is a mix of sound, valid information along with misleading information that includes anonymous and hearsay reporting, spurious email ratings or reports, and instances of unlicensed individuals being contained within provider lists. Some sites are pseudonymously hosted, tout questionable claims and use testimonials as the basis for treatment and resource decisions.

Under such conditions, the accuracy, validity or source of transsexual information is highly questionable. The Internet has the potential in providing a wonderful freedom of information. And anonymity, questionable information, and even that which may be considered obscene or vulgar all have a place on the Internet. But consumers of services deserve accuracy and reliability in the information they receive. While sources of transsexual related information in the UK are scant, a greater reliance on anecdotal information is often necessary.

But providing that information requires a conscientious approach in developing Internet content. I hope that in developing the Transsexual UK website at www.transsexual.org.uk that I am on the right track to achieving this.
