Awards : Congratulations : What does the medal stand for? : How the MedBE title can be used : How to make a nomination :
2006 :
The trans communuity is delighted that some of its more vocal activists
have received Royal Recognition by way of OBE's, MBE's & Honorary
MBE's thus recognising their services to the trans community. We
also acknowledge pride to trans people who receive prestige awards
for contributions in all areas of life.
Along with their deserved joy in accepting these awards, some of
these individuals (listed in the third column) have expressed in
some way, their discomfort for receiving these awards. This is because
they openly admitted they would not have received this recognition
without the tremendous work of all the trans activists in the UK
who themselves have dedicated many hours, often in the background.
This has meant their work being unrecognised for tirelessly campaigning
for equality and trans rights.
Without denigrating the prestige awards given to these individuals,
Transsexual UK believes that all the efforts of everyone must be
acknowledged for their work in promoting a positive image for transsexual
people in the UK, and is therefore proud to announce it's own MBE
Award.
We also respect that there are many trans people who do not wish
to be publically outed for fear of reprisals, but still campaigned
just as equally and still deserve a private honour of recognition
for their work.
Transsexual UK's Medal of Brazen Endurance
stands for three things;
- It's a Medal first of all
because each nominated person deserves a Medal in recognition
of work which aided to secure rights and promoted a positive image
of transsexual people in the UK.
- It means Brazen as all these
indivduals have boldly risen above Society's imposed facets of
oppression, thus outing themselves to face prejudice and shamelessly
campaign in their own ways within their local communities for
the good of other trans people.
- Thirdly, it is a recognition of Endurance,
because each has endured their campaigns despite the strains,
hardships and often their loss of privation in coming out as trans
Individuals within a society that so often failed to accept them
as people first and foremost.
Like the MBE, this award can be used in titles after one's name
to express pride to non trans people of sacrifices made to promote
a positive image of transsexualism. Please note that to avoid confusing
with the Royal MBE, MedBE must be used instead. Here is an explanation of how a 'real' title is granted.
NOTE: The MedBE is NOT a genuine British title,
neither is it a peerage title - the MedBE is meant as a recognition
amongst trans and non-trans people, but also as a key point of historial
fact on individuals' specific contributions promoting trans rights.
One nomination should be provided in order for a trans individual
be awarded recognition for their services to the trans commuinity
- individuals can even nominate themselves so long as they are able
to show evidence of activism. Evidence can consist of veriviable
web presence, news articles or independent person from a recognised
UK organisation for trans people.
Your nomination letter and email should be sent to Transsexual UK.
