Page under development
As well as preserving old wireless and televison sets, I have what
may be a unique collection of TV aerials from the days of 405 line VHF
television. These were large impressive structures which dominated the
rooftops. On chimneys they could be 10 feet high and wide, and erected
by one man and a ladder. Now no one would attempt such a feat without
scaffolding for fear of the Health and Safety officer. They were
probably rarely removed before they eventually disintegrated one piece
at a time. Nevertheless, I have not heard of anyone being injured by a
falling 10 foot metal rod from a TV aerial. Modern UHF TV aerials are
very small in comparison.
Due to their size and the work to remove them intact, few have
survived.
