Here is a summary of the races scheduled for 2003. Full details may be found in the USC Notice of Races Sailing Instructions Part I and Part II, which are posted on the notice board in the Clubhouse. 'Fun' events are well publicised in the Mainsheet.
Wednesday Evening Series
This year there will be two classes -
Class A for any yachts which have a current IRC certificate,
Class B for yachts with Portsmouth Yardstick numbers.*
There will be seven races this year starting on 4th June.
Start times 19.00 for Class B and 19.10 for Class A.
Courses will be taken from the current (2003) USC course sheet.Maximum Challenge Series
A series of six Sunday morning races starting on 27th July,
Class A for any yachts which have a current IRC certificate,
Class B for yachts with Portsmouth Yardstick numbers.*
Start times will be announced later.

This popular series is run by MYC. The USC results will be extracted, with 3 races from 4 to count.

A series of four Sunday morning races (not for the faint hearted) to round off the year starting on 23rd November.
Class A for any yachts which have a current IRC certificate,
Class B for yachts with Portsmouth Yardstick numbers.*

Courses will be taken from the current (2003) USC course sheet.
* Portsmouth Yardstick numbers can be found on the RYA Website (search for - yardstick) if your vessel is not listed the Race Captain will issue you with a provisional handicap number.
Racing at USC is a pleasant means of honing one's sailing skills in a spirit of friendly rivalry. Many skippers are keen to recruit new crew members and a great deal can be learned by sailing with an experienced racing skipper. Either contact them directly or place an advertisement in the Mainsheet.
There
are also a number of 'Fun' Races.

Ladies Race
A Club event on Sunday 18th May open to USC yachts skippered & helmed entirely by a lady. (Female impersonators will be disqualified.)
The Course is from Queenborough Spit Buoy to the USC line.
Crew to be allocated on the day.
Start Time 10am.Round The Island Race
A Club fun race on 21st June from the USC line to a transit in line with the Concrete Barge at Queenborough.
Start when you like on the day of the race and go which ever way around the Isle of Sheppey that suits you.
Record your boat's time on the special form available from the Clubhouse or Race Captain.
A Club Barbecue takes place in the evening.MYA Regatta Evening Race
An Open event hosted by USC from the Club line, and run by the MYA regatta committee, on Wednesday 2nd July.
Start times 19.00 for Class B and 19.10 for Class A.
Courses will be taken from the current (2003) USC course sheet.
The race is followed by a Barbecue at the Clubhouse.Wreckers' Race
A Club fun race from the USC line to the Bulwark buoy and back, open to all USC yachts, will take place on Sunday 13th July.Passage Race
A Club fun race, this year from Garrison Point to Brightlingsea, on 23rd August.
Start when you like on race day and record your boat's time on the special form available from the Clubhouse or Race Captain.
This popular Bank Holiday Weekend event is an ideal opportunity for less experienced crews to make a day passage in company.Singlehanded Race
A Club event open to all USC yachts and will take place this year on Sunday 14th September.
Start from the USC Line at 11.00 am.
The use of auto-pilots is allowed, and a second person may be on board for safety reasons, but he/she must take no part in the sailing of the yacht (including sitting out and offering 'advice' to the skipper).
The Race Captain Christine Marchant will always be glad to answer any queries about the various aspects of this important element of Club activities.
Medway Yacht Club have also issued an open invitation to USC members to participate in their racing events.
