1-3 Pier Place, Lower Upnor, Rochester, Kent ME2 4UY Club Cruises 2004 At Easter we returned to St Katharine Yacht Haven. The weekend included a Club meal on Saturday night at the Gallows Restaurant overlooking the Thames at Wapping, and other activities.
In early May we headed up the east coast to the River Blackwater staying at Bradwell Marina on the Saturday and relocating to West Mersea on Sunday to give all tide access for the return passage. The Green Man at Bradwell hosted a Club meal on Saturday.
Once again we were invited by the Narrow Seas Club to take part in the Calais Rally on the second Bank Holiday in May. There are trophies awarded for high attendance. The hospitality and opportunity to restock the wine/beer cellar are all good reasons not to miss this great weekend.
The destination for the Club's two week holiday this year was again Holland. We enjoyed great sailing in sheltered waters by day, the Dutch hospitality and the infamous Club camaraderie in the evenings. The holiday is a good opportunity for those yet to enjoy crossing to the continent, as doing so in company is a great confidence booster.
Later on in the programme we visited the 'yachting Mecca' that is Burnham on Crouch.
The East Swale provided pictorial, historic and sheltered venues for three of our cruises, Faversham, South Deep and Harty Ferry. The South Deep trip incorporated a dinghy trip to the Sailing Barge museum at Sittingbourne. Those who prefer these shorter passages also enjoyed the Medway Weekender exploring the delights of East Hoo Creek, the hulk of the First World War submarine and Lower Halstow.
August Bank holiday took us to Brightlingsea. This cruise included a dinghy trip to St Osyth, a passage race and a Club meal. The climax was the Commodore's Cruise to Ramsgate in late September.
