1-3 Pier Place, Lower Upnor, Rochester, Kent ME2 4UY Club Cruises 2005 This year we retained most of the favourites, but made better use of the longer bank holiday weekends and added some shorter cruises in sheltered waters to encourage smaller boats, less experienced crews or those with limited time to join in the fun.
Stangate Creek is just a few miles down river and is ideal for the one day cruises set in May and July. Faversham, the Commodore's Cruise to Queenborough and the Medway Weekender are all in the relative safety of the Swale and Medway so are suitable for all.
East coast destinations include the River Orwell in May with an evening at the much painted Pin Mill; West Mersea in June and Brightlingsea which this year is pulled forward to mid August thus freeing the bank holiday weekend for the cross channel jaunt to Gravelines.
The Calais Rally at the end of May is a must as we need to attend en-masse to reclaim those trophies we surrendered in 2004. The facilities at Calais have been extensively developed with new pontoons and better lock access so Calais is well worth revisiting if you've not been for a while.
Holland has proved to be a popular venue for the Club Holiday over recent years - last year 13 boats made the trip enjoying the benefits of passage making in company and the freedom to explore the Netherlands' rich cruising grounds in their own time.
With all the cruises it helps the Cruise Captain enormously if you can let him know that you are thinking of attending. If your plans change, it is usually easier to cancel berths and restaurants than it is to try to add to them on the day. It also helps us keep a lookout for you on passage, which is one of many benefits of cruising in company with the Club.
Don't forget your cruising exploits may be rewarded with one of the following trophies:
The Gad Cruising Trophy
For a notable achievement - by a skipper who is either a newcomer to sailing or who sails a small boat. The John Bull Trophy
For the first skipper in the year to reach a foreign port from the Medway. The Wanderer Salver
For an outstanding voyage. The Longnose Trophy
For the longest voyage from and returning to the Medway within 28 days. The Tigger Trophy
For the best, most interesting log.The Protegimus Trophy
