Fishing Competition

11/11/06 (Sat) Fishing Competition

The competition has to be fished in the Medway between Rochester Bridge and Garrison Point.
Not starting before 07:30.
The weigh-in at the Clubhouse is at 18:00.

There are various prizes:

The best total catch for a Club member. Prize is a shield.

The best total catch for a guest. Prize is a shield.

The best total catch for a junior member or guest. Prize is a cup.

The best specimen fish (the largest fish bearing in mind its full grown size). Prize is a bottle of wine.

The best average catch for a boat (total weight divided by the number of fishermen). Prize is use of a tankard for a year.

In order to conserve the fish, if the fisherman does not want to kill the fish they can be weighed and agreed by the Skipper.

This was a highly successful event with 48 people sitting down in the evening for chilli and jacket spud (to warm the cockles!) followed by chocolate fudge cake.

Eight boats took part in the competition ensuring the crews earned their dinner by spending the day fishing.

Although a few did seek shelter as the wind picked up, most fished around number 12 buoy, with some boats fishing in the fairway!

Lindsey's grandson, Jonathon, won the under 18 trophy and James won a special under 13 trophy.

However, Stan End's boat found the fish and so Stan walked away with most of the silverware.

There was an influx of red gurnard in the river with five falling to people's hooks, other species caught were codling, whiting, pouting, dabs and bass.
