1-3 Pier Place, Lower Upnor, Rochester, Kent ME2 4UY 24/02/07 (Sat) Quiz Night - 7.00 for 7.30 pm in the Clubhouse - in aid of Sailability
Tickets £5, including Ploughman's SupperThe Quiz Night, in aid of Medway Sailability, was a great success.
Eleven teams participated in the event - it was quite a squash getting everyone into the Clubhouse.
We (USC) had challenged Medway Yacht Club to enter a team to compete with a nominated team from USC. The team scoring the most points would be awarded the 'MYC/USC Challenge Trophy', which has sat behind our bar, un-challenged, for 23 years! Unfortunately Medway scored higher than our team on the night and we will now have their name engraved on the bell.
The good news is another Upnor team won the quiz, so the honours were shared. Well done 'The Clots'!
Medway have promised to challenge us next year, so it looks as if the trophy will be back in regular use again.
As well as the quiz, we had a fund-raising game of 'heads and tails', which was won by Ian Campbell.
We also had a fund-raising 'bubble buster', this was won by Jerry Dennis.
Ian and Jerry both generously donated their winnings to Medway Sailability.
The sale of raffle tickets raised a pleasing sum, due mainly to the quality of the prizes, all of which were donated by local businesses, including dinner at The Ship and The Pier, a life jacket from The Pirates Cave and a flashlight from Gillingham Marina. Nationwide donated £50 which was used to buy the quiz prize, a case of wine, and to subsidise the food.
'The Clots' auctioned off their prize, the case of wine, and raised an additional £35.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening, even the winners of the 'loser's lollies'!
We all had a Ploughman's Supper, even though 'he' wasn't very pleased!
The bar takings were gratifyingly high and we made an overall profit for Medway Sailability of £459.
Well done everyone.
