Racing at USC 2008

After speaking to Club Members, it was felt that club racing was no longer fun and had lost its appeal to all but the most competitive racers.

So the Committee has decided that we will run races only under Upnor rules using the Portsmouth Yardstick* handicap system.

Other clubs will be invited to take part.

We hope that this will bring back the times when up to twenty boats took part on Wednesday evenings, and the fun that there was in the racing, as well as in the bar afterwards.

We have volunteers to run some of the races but still need more. If you can help - to raise flags, take times, and see how high you can make pedestrians jump with the klaxon, please contact Murray on 01634 852507

Here is a summary of the races scheduled for 2008. Full details may be found in the Upnor Sailing Club Notice of Races Sailing Instructions Part I and Part II, which are posted on the notice board in the Clubhouse.

'Fun' events are well publicised in the Mainsheet.

Racing at USC is a pleasant means of honing one's sailing skills in a spirit of friendly rivalry. Many skippers are keen to recruit new crew members and a great deal can be learned by sailing with an experienced racing skipper. Either contact them directly or place an advertisement on the Crewing page or in the Mainsheet.

There are also a number of 'Fun' Races

The Race Captain will always be glad to answer any queries about the various aspects of this important element of Club activities.

Medway Yacht Club have also issued an open invitation to Upnor Sailing Club members to participate in their racing events.

Hubba has started a mailing list that is open to anybody interested in racing on the Medway.

The mailing list is for anybody to advertise on if they are looking for crew, and for publishing racing notices and results.

Anybody who is interested in this should subscribe to this list at: http://www.upnor.net/mailman/listinfo/medway-racers

This list is not limited to Upnor Sailing Club so USC fun races that are only open to Club members will not be advertised on the medway-racers list.
