Hello All Stations,
We had an excellent 'launch' this afternoon. BBC Radio Kent did a piece which went out at 1715hrs and we expect something similar from KFM over the weekend. Meridian TV will show their film of the event sometime over this weekend - you need to check their website for an accurate time.
Local press were well represented with a prequel in today's Kent Messenger and a full report with pictures due in Monday's edition. There was also the piece on the BBC Website circulated to you this morning. There should be something in 'Sailing Today' as well.
Chief Inspector Peter Wedlake uttered some very supportive PR words to camera and assorted microphones and there was a good turn out of members from Association Clubs.
Our thanks to Rochester Cruising Club for their hospitality and I'll try and get the rest of the signs distributed next week.
Regards,
Keith Jolly,
Chair, MYA.

At a meeting today of officials and river users it was agreed to establish a scheme similar to Neighbourhood Watch. This is a scheme new to this area but it will be modeled on an existing Hampshire Marine Watch.
It will act as a conduit so that all marine crime incidents can be collated which should enable us to establish the amount of boat related crime happening on the River Medway. At the moment there is no statistical record kept which gives the Police a very good reason for not using more resources to prevent crime on the river. With this new scheme in operation the Police will be able to target crime hotspots and information gathered will help in the prosecution of serial offenders.
If you see or hear anything, contact me in the first instance either by phone or email and I will pass on your report.
Of course actual crimes taking place should be reported to the Police using the 999 system but do please let me know about them as well so that I can pass on the information to Marine Watch.
We all have to do our part, keeping our eyes and ears open and reporting anything suspicious, not just when doing our security patrols but at all times when we are on the river. Also if you hear of anyone selling dodgy gear.
In return the Marine Watch office will let me know if there is anyone, or a boat or car for which they want us to keep a look out and I will pass on the information to the membership.
