NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on or about Wednesday 29th July 2009, a data collecting unit will be placed on the bed of the East Swale in the vicinity of Fowley Spit buoy, in the following approximate position:

51° 21.62' N 00° 51.60' E

2. The unit will be put on location by the 'MEDWAY OTTER' and is expected to be retrieved after about 15 days of data collection. The position will be marked by a yellow spherical buoy with cross topmark, bearing the legend 'SURVEY'. Persons in charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity of the unit and buoy should pass by well clear.

POWER CABLE ROUTE INVESTIGATIONS

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that between Wednesday 8th July and Sunday 12th July 2009 further investigations along the proposed 'BritNed' cable route will take place.

2. The programme of work is as follows:

8th July - Vessel 'BANDIT' - mobilise;

8th - 12th July - Survey up to 28km from the Isle of Grain; and

12th July - De-mobilise.

3. Persons in charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity of the survey vessels must pass by at reduced speed with due care and attention.

4. CONSTRUCTION OF LNG JETTY No.8
AMENDMENTS TO EXCLUSION ZONE

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the main marine works (pile driving, jetty head construction and linking walkways) for the installation of LNG Jetty No. 8 on the North side of Saltpan Reach, River Medway, have been completed. The previously declared Exclusion Zone has been amended.

2. The Exclusion Zone defined in Medway Ports' Notice to Mariners No. 41 of 2007 has been withdrawn and the Yellow Conical buoy has been removed.

A new Exclusion Zone is now in place, defined as follows:

A circle radius 150 metres, centre 51° 25.93086' N 00° 42.17604' E

3. Whilst the fitting out works continue into 2010 there may be occasions when heavy lifts of equipment from a crane barge will be required. An appropriate Notice to Mariners will be issued prior to such work.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Closures to Navigation will take place in Chatham Reach, River Medway, due to Events taking place on the River Medway in the vicinity of Thunderbolt Pier on SATURDAY 27 JUNE 2009. The area involved extends from the upstream lead-in pontoon to Chatham Maritime Marina and Chatham Ness.

2. The programme of Events requires, for the safety of river users, Closures to Navigation at these times during the following two days, as listed below:

Friday 26 June 2009 between 1400 hrs. & 1700 hrs. (rehearsal day)

Saturday 27 June 2009 between 1000 hrs. & 1100 hrs.

Then various short closures for river and/or air displays between 1430 hrs. & 1630 hrs. The timing of the closures to navigation will be subject to review, depending upon the progress of the day's Events.

INSPECTION OF BRIDGE SOFFITS

NOTICE IS HEREBY given that during the week beginning Monday 30 March 2009, work will commence on the inspection of the bridge soffits, New Road Bridge, Bridge Reach, River Medway in the following approximate position:

51º 23.43' N 0º 30.04' E

2. The work, which is expected to last approximately four days, will be carried out from a mobile lorry-based underbridge gantry hanging over the side of the bridge. Each span will be inspected in turn and the gantry will be removed from the spans outside of normal working hours.

3. Because of the mobile nature of the inspection gantry, the appropriate day and night signals will not be displayed. Persons in charge of small craft navigating the bridges should use an alternative span. Persons in charge of large vessels intending to transit the main navigation span must give at least three hours notice to Medway V.T.S. in order that the gantry can be re-located, if necessary (depending upon which span is being inspected at the time).

The 'Medway Surveyor' will tow a small catamaran containing the boomer equipment approximately 20 metres astern and will display the day signals prescribed in the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea 1972, as amended. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on or about Monday 2nd February 2008 the first phase of repair works on the collapsed river wall will commence at the paper mill wharf, Snodland Reach, River Medway in the following approximate position:

51° 19.76' N 00° 27.06' E

2. This first phase, which will be carried out from the land, involves the removal of loose materials and existing concrete flood relief wall. A temporary flood protection bund will be in place. These works are expected to take approximately three weeks. Further site investigations will then be carried out to determine the final method of dealing with the collapsed wall. Signs will be placed on the river bank, approximately 200 metres upstream and downstream, warning persons in charge of craft navigating passed the site to proceed with caution.

MAINTENANCE DREDGING

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on or about Saturday 17 January 2009 maintenance dredging works will commence in the Medway Approach Channel, Thames Estuary.

2. The dredging will take place between navigation buoys no. 2 and 10 and will be carried out by the trailer hopper suction dredger 'BRABO'. The dredged material will be deposited at either the South Falls or Inner Gabbard Spoil Grounds. The work is expected to last approximately six days.

3. When the dredger is manoeuvring in the Medway Approach Channel persons in charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity must pass by at REDUCED SPEED and EXERCISE CARE and CAUTION. Vessels may be required, due to the dredging operations, to amend their sailing plans under instruction from Medway VTS.

4. The dredger will exhibit the Regulation Day and Night Signals as prescribed in the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea 1972, as amended. Further Notices will be issued on any major change in the operation and on completion of the works.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a section of sheet-piled river wall has collapsed at the paper mill wharf, Snodland Reach, River Medway in the following approximate position:

51° 19.76' N 00° 27.06' E

2. The affected section of river wall is approximately 20 metres long. The top of the sheet piling is protruding some five metres into the river. The limit of safe navigation past the site will be marked by two unlit yellow buoys. Persons in charge of craft navigating in the area must take due care and attention, proceeding at slow speed without passing between the buoys and the wall as there is the potential danger of broken pieces of concrete capping lying on the river bed.

MEDWAY SECONDARY CHANNEL
AMENDED BOUNDARY OF SHEERNESS SMALL SHIPS ANCHORAGE

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that during the week beginning Monday 25th August 2008 the Medway Secondary Channel will be created by this establishment of five new navigational buoys. Because of this, the boundary of the Sheerness Small Ships Anchorage will be amended.

2. The Medway Secondary Channel will be immediately to the South of the existing channel, the Southern boundary of which will form, in the main, the Northern boundary of the new channel. THE LEAST DEPTH IN THE NEW CHANNEL IS 5.5 M. CD.

The following navigation buoys will be established:

3. The Northern boundary of the Medway Secondary Channel is defined by joining the positions of buoys 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10, inclusive. The Southern boundary of the Medway Secondary Channel is defined by a line joining the above positions from 2A to 10A inclusive, thence to the West Cant navigation buoy (51° 27.199' N 00° 45.482' E).

4. RULES

The Medway Secondary Channel will be one way at any time and use of the channel will be controlled by Medway Navigation Service (Medway VTS)

VTS clearance will be required prior to entry, either when passing Garrison Point or Medway Buoy, and preference will be given to vessels navigating with the tide.

Use of the Medway Secondary Channel will be limited to vessels of 160 m length overall or less.

5. The amended boundary of the Sheerness Small Ships Anchorage is defined by drawing a line from the West Cant Navigation buoy to buoys 10A then 8A, then to 51° 27.5151' N 00° 47.8317' E and to 51° 27.0327' N 00° 45.6431' E, then returning to the West Cant buoy.

MEDWAY APPROACH TO SALTPAN REACH
GRAIN LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS TERMINAL (JETTY NO 10)
NAVIGATION OF VESSELS IN RELATION TO THE LNG TERMINAL

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the following conditions relating to the navigation of vessels resulting from the operation of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal, Saltpan Reach, River Medway, shall be applicable when:

a) a vessel carrying LNG in bulk ('LNG Vessel') is underway between the Medway Buoy and the LNG Terminal situated at Jetty No. 10 Isle of Grain ('the LNG Terminal') (or vice versa);

b) no LNG vessel is alongside the LNG Terminal or;

c) a LNG vessel is berthed at the LNG Terminal

as appropriate

2.1 Berth Exclusion Zone

2.1.1 When there is no LNG vessel berthed at the LNG Terminal a vessel shall not navigate within that part of the River Medway which is within an arc measuring 150 metres in any direction from the cargo transfer arms at the LNG Terminal. The cargo transfer arms are located at the following approximate position:

51° 25.9405'N 00° 42.5448'E

2.1.2 Whilst an LNG vessel is moored at the LNG Terminal no vessel greater than 50 metres LOA, other than service craft attending the LNG vessel and which are authorised to be there by the Harbour Master or the operator of the LNG Terminal, shall enter any part of the River Medway which is within an arc measuring 250 metres in any direction from the cargo transfer arms of the LNG Terminal ('the Berth Exclusion Zone') or pass the Berth Exclusion Zone at a speed greater than 7.5 knots through the water.

2.1.3 Vessels of less than 50 metres LOA may, if considered necessary by the Master or Pilot of such vessel for safe navigation of such vessel, pass within the Berth Exclusion Zone but not less than 100 metres from any LNG vessel berthed at the LNG Terminal. Whilst within the Berth Exclusion Zone such vessel's speed may not exceed 7.5 knots through the water.

2.2 Navigation between Medway Buoy and Isle of Grain LNG Terminal

2.2.1 When a LNG vessel is proceeding between the Medway Buoy and the LNG Terminal or vice versa no vessel shall proceed in the main Medway Approach Channel [between No. 2 Light Buoy and a drawn line 270° (True) from the 2FR (vert) lights adjacent to No 11 Berth Pontoon, Garrison Point] or in the Medway Secondary Channel, in an opposite direction to the LNG vessel, except where the provisions of para. 2.2.3 apply.

2.2.2 Vessels navigating in the same direction as an LNG vessel which is proceeding between the Medway Buoy and the LNG Terminal or vice versa shall maintain a safe distance of one mile ahead or half a mile astern, as appropriate, of the LNG vessel.

2.2.3 Subject to the specific agreement of both the LNG vessel and Medway VTS, vessels of 130 metres LOA or less, provided that they can safely navigate outside the main navigational channel (as defined in 2.2.1), may navigate in the same or opposite direction as an LNG vessel. Such vessels should navigate with caution and slow speed. (see note)

NOTE: LNG vessels will normally pass to the South of the Medway Buoy both inbound and outbound. Where interactions are likely to occur in the vicinity of the Medway Buoy between vessels of 130 metres LOA or less and LNG vessels, the intention to navigate outside the channel and details of the planned track should be passed by such vessels to Medway VTS, London VTS and the LNG vessel involved.

2.2.4 When an LNG vessel is underway between the Medway Buoy and the LNG Terminal or vice versa, no vessel shall cross less than one mile ahead or half a mile astern of such LNG vessel.

2.2.5 When an inbound LNG vessel is manoeuvring in Saltpan Reach to the West of the Kent Buoys no inbound vessel of more than 50 metres LOA shall pass the Kent Buoys and no outbound vessel of more than 50 metres LOA shall pass No. 12 Channel Buoy until the Medway VTS advises mariners that it is safe to do so.

NOTIFICATION OF OBSTRUCTION

NOTICE IS HEREBY given that an obstruction has been located to the North West of the upstream end of the Coal Washer Wharf, Loden Hope Reach, West Swale centred in the following approximate position:

51° 24.8002' N 00° 43.5366' E

The obstruction has been identified by divers' inspection as being a steel lighter or barge. It is approximately 20 m. long by 7 m. wide, lying in an approximately South West to North East direction. A least depth of 1.4 m. CD is indicated over the South Western point; a least depth of 3.7 m. CD is indicated over the North Eastern point.

2. Further inspections are planned and until further notice persons in charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity of the obstruction should exercise due CARE and CAUTION.

REDUCTION IN CHARTED DEPTHS

NOTICE IS HEREBY given that a recent hydrographic survey of the Chatham Lock Approaches, Gillingham Reach, River Medway has indicated a reduction in the charted, maintained depths.

2. The results of the survey have been published in chart no. 1531/08.

3. It is intended to carry out maintenance dredging in the near future. In the meantime, persons in charge of vessels navigating within the Lock Approaches should exercise care and caution.

ROCHESTER RAIL BRIDGE - SCAFFOLDING
LONG TERM REPAIR WORKS REDUCTION IN HEADROOM

NOTICE IS HEREBY given that with immediate effect, there is a change to the status of navigation in relation to the MAIN SPAN of the Rail Bridge, Bridge Reach, River Medway in the following approximate position:

51º 23.545' N 00º 30.071' E

2. It has been decided that the MAIN SPAN of the bridge is now OPEN TO NAVIGATION; however, there is a REDUCTION in the HEAD ROOM of 1.6 metres. The STROOD SPAN remains OPEN FOR NAVIGATION. During the period of the works in the main span temporary fixed navigation lights have been erected in the STROOD SPAN.

3. The appropriate day and night signals are displayed in accordance with Medway Ports' River Byelaw 1991 9(2) which states:

When the head room of an arch or span of a bridge is reduced from its usual limits, but that arch or span is not closed to navigation, the person in control of the bridge shall suspend from the centre of that arch or span by day a bundle of straw or suitable alternative as agreed by the harbour master large enough to be conspicuous and by night a WHITE all-round light.

4. Persons in charge of small craft navigating in the vicinity of the bridge must not hinder any large commercial vessel when moving upstream through the Main Span or downstream via the Strood Span.

AMENDMENT OF EXCLUSION ZONE BOUNDARY

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that with immediate effect in order to accommodate changes in the safe working requirements of the craft involved in the demolition of Jetty No. 8 on the North shore of Saltpan Reach, River Medway, the boundary of the exclusion zone has been amended and the position of the yellow marker buoy has been changed.

2. The exclusion zone is now defined by a line joining the following positions:
