The Crown Estate - proposed wind farms
CONSTRUCTION OF THE GUNFLEET SANDS 1 & 2 OFFSHORE WIND FARM AND ESTABLISHMENT OF 500 METRE SAFETY ZONE AROUND THE SITE.
Construction of the Gunfleet Offshore Wind farm is expected to start on 25th August 2008 and work is expected to take eighteen months to complete.
The work will involve the construction of 48 wind turbines, each supported on a 5m diameter monopole foundation. The wind turbines will have a height above mean high water springs of 129m from the uppermost blade tip to sea level. The turbine clearance from the lower blade to sea level is 22 m at MHWS.
Submarine power cables will connect each turbine to the next and then to the shore at Holland on Sea via an offshore sub station.
The installation of the turbines will take place from mid February 2009 onwards.

Gunfleets Sands 1 & 2 Offshore Wind Farm Jack up Rig Trials
The jack up rig 'EXCALIBUR' will be conducting jack up trials within the boundaries of Gunfleet 1 & 2 between approximate dates of the 28th February 2008 and 1st March 2008.

BOREHOLE OPERATIONS - LONDON ARRAY WIND FARM
The jack up rig Excalibur call sign YJXQ5 will be undertaking borehole & cone penetration test work within London Array site in the Knock Deep & Long Sand areas. The work is expected to commence during the first week of October 2007 and continue until the end of the year.
Kentish Flats Offshore Windfarm - On Saturday 10 September 2005 the last of the 30 wind turbines was successfully started up and began generating.
