Aliens Adventure Game

The Aliens Adventure Game is a role playing system based on the popular Alien Trilogy of films Alien, Aliens & Alien 3. The game revolves around the United States Colonial Marines Corp who were seen in the second film, but the system does allow for any type of character though the rule system is not quite as in depth in its coverage.

The character can be divided into attributes and skill ratings. There are two type of attributes Primary and Secondary, the primary attributes are Strength, Intelligence, Will, Health, and Agility which should be self explanatory. The secondary skills are Charisma, Leadership, Perception, and motivation. All of these attributes are used mainly for the generation of the initial character but can be substituted for skill tests if there is not an appropriate skill.

The skill rating system ranks from Novice through to Grand Master. To acquire new levels in skills you must used that skill or have training. The GM determines if you have had enough experience to try and gain the next rank. To gain a new rank in a skill you must make a learn roll to advance from Novice to Competent, Competent to Professional. To advance from Professional to Expert you must make two successful learn rolls, Expert to Master three rolls and Master to Grand Master four successful rolls.

Obviously the better you are in a skill the easier certain tasks become or you are able to perform feats which others would find nigh on impossible. But even if you fail a test it doesn't mean you've failed big time. Checking the amount you've failed by or even succeeded by is the indication to how well or badly you performed the task. See The price of success for an explanation of this.

There are two types of skill, there are those which are common to everyone but are Marine Based (this is where the system becomes biased to the Colonial Marines) and support skills which are skills learnt through training, background and hobbies.

Combat is resolved in combat turns with faster more agile people being able to perform more actions within the turn. All actions are given a number of combat actions which is the time needed to perform the action, eg to perform a snap shot would take two segments where as if you wanted to spend time aiming it would cost you more combat actions depending on the type of weapon you were using.

There are no hit points but damage is measured by the characters resistance and pain threshold. Once wounded characters make a roll which is based on the number of damage points compared to there Knock out Value. This gives a percentage which the character must roll over to stay conscious. Healing is done on time scales, so characters must receive healing or medical attention within a certain amount of time to stop the wound going to the next stage of seriousness.

Our game is based on a small group of Marines once led by Lt Demetrie but now under command of Captain Micheal 'Freeway' Waye since Lt Demetrie had a fatal accident with a Drug Baron and a drop ship. Giving Freeway field command.

Though our group has been gaming for now over a year we still have not met any aliens, but the glint in our GM's eye is getting bigger and the feeling that our next mission will be a Bug Hunt seems more promising.
