Dark forces were abroad in Korokald. To the North the Orchish races were increasing their activity. Drow and Easterling raiding parties plundered both the North and South. Demons, conjured from the depths of hell by mad necromancers , ravaged the lands. Bitter and bloody feuds split the Light races, feuds between human and elf, human and dwarf and even human and human. The Gods themselves seemed to be in conflict, or at least their worshippers did. It seemed as if the powers of darkness would engulf the land, bringing confusion, despair and dread to all who lived there. It was a dark time, a time that cried out for release from the oppressive yoke placed across the land. It was a time for heroes.
And then, as if in answer to the prayers of a desperate populace, came two such heroes. Two blazing beacons of light to pierce the blackness of almost perpetual night, and begin the long and arduous journey to bring the eternal darkness to an end.
One came from the North. William Warlace, brought up in the warrior tradition. He reached adulthood at a time when the Northern clans were divided, and at war with each other. Following the near annihilation of his tribe, The Silver Bears, in a bloody battle with orcs, Warlace was elected Clan Leader, to replace the previous chief who was killed in the battle. The Silver Bears changed their name to The Ghost Bears in honour of those who fell in the battle.
Warlace led an emmissary to seek alliance with the Dwarves in an attempt to stem the growing orchish prescence. However the Dwarves refused to consider an alliance with the Northmen until such time as the clans were united in peace. Stung by the rejection Warlace vowed to bring the clans together. He set off with a few of his clansmen on a long and perilous mission to find the lost Cloak of Kaprigti. This magical cloak belonged to the last Pendragon of the northern clans, the last man who managed to unite them. After facing many dangers the group returned with Warlace wearing the great cloak. A meeting of the clan leaders was called, and a heated discussion took place. Duels were fought under strict conditions as the clans tried to resolve their differences. After much political and physical debate the clans agreed to unite, and Warlace was elected Pendragon.
In his new position Warlace again sought , and obtained, the alliance with the Dwarves. Together the two races began the long task of reclaiming their lands from not only the orcs, but also the encroaching Easterlings and Drow. Warlace has had to take more of a back seat in the actual battles against the dark foes, but chafes against these restrictions of leadership. Occassionally, tired of merely planning the fightback Warlace has been known to lead the assaults against the evil ones. A fearless warrior, a leader of courage and vision, Warlace has not only led his people but led by example. Under his leadership the Northern races have halted the evil invasion, and started to force the darkness back from whence it came. There is a long way to go, but the shining light that is William Warlace is bringing goodness and life back to a dark and almost dead land.
`The other hero came from the Penarth Forest. An Elf, raised in the traditional way of the Noble Houses and Elven Court. As the first born of an elven lord FlynnMaryan was expected to learn the subtlties of the court. The elves had become withdrawn within the confines of the forest.Relationship with the neighbouring humans had degenerated over many years, and racial tensions often turned to bloodshed. Both races also had problems with the Drow and Easterlings. Internal squabblings between the elven houses over how to resolve their problems only made matters worst, and FlynnMaryan became more and more frustrated at his kinfolk. Finally he decided to leave the court, and seek the proof of the direness of the situation in order to convince the elves to face up to the greater problems of the world.
After several years travelling throughout the land Flynn returned to his homeland, armed with what he hoped was enought proof th convince the elves they could no longer bury their heads in the sand. He arrived just in time to prevent a drow assassination attempt on the elven king. However his arrival was too late to save his father from the same fate. Now head of House Stag Flynn vowed to unite the humans and elves against their common enemies. Together with his sister, Sanctury, he again travelled the lands, trying to break down the racial barriers, as well as taking bloody revenge on the dark forces whenever the opportunity arose. He accepted a quest from the Church of Illumi to find and return a holy artefacte, The Helm of Akhul-Wora. Upon completion of this difficult quest he was accepted into the Church, and awarded the Helm to aid him in his mission.
Finally he managed to break through the barriers between elf and human. Caught in a human town which was besieged by drow, Flynn and his companions managed to escape, and he convinced the elves to send an army to the humans aid. The combined forces broke the siege, and as a result the first treaty was signed between the two races. But Flynn refused to rest. He knew there was still a long way to go before years of aminosity could be repaired. Also the evil in the land was still spreading. The loss of the Helm of Akhul-Wora to a raiding party of Easterlings only served to fuel his determination. And the loss of his sister to a drow blade has driven him to actively seek out and destroy as many drow as he can.
Lord FlynnMaryan is still travelling the human lands and the elven forests, trying to bring respite to both from the scourge of darkness. He also seeks the strenght and power to take the battle into the East and reclain the Helm. Some elves see him as a hero, some as a dangerous loose cannon. He has enemies within the Elven Court who bridle at his attempts to unite elf and human. Humans themselves still have trouble seeing past his elven heritage. But Flynn carries on with his personal campaign to bring the light back to the lands of both Elf and Human.
