Parenting - Pregnancy Diary

This page follows the pregnancy right through from the first scan, until Nathan was born.

  • 11-DEC-1999: Appointment (First Scan)
  • 14-JAN-2000: We had a car accident today. Hit a patch of ice and the car ended up in the ditch. Mother and Baby are fine. We got another scan immediately just to make sure.
  • 24-JAN-2000: Appointment (Scan).
  • 28-FEB-2000: Big Scan (20 weeks)!.  We could see the baby more clearly on the scanner. It's hands, feet, spine, etc. The printouts didn't turn out very well though. See them here!
  • 09-MAR-2000: Routine checkup, no scan was done. Baby's heartbeat was checked. Everything is healthy.
  • 13-APR-2000: A check-up at the mid-wife clinic. No scan done! Baby's heartbeat was checked. All is fine.
  • 25-MAY-2000: Baby is now 32 Weeks old.  We had a checkup today.  The baby is 5.5 pounds in weight.  This is quite big since we have another 7 or so weeks to go!  Everything is looking good.  At this stage we now have purchased our pram, cot and baby bath!  It's not long away now!
  • 10-JUN-2000 - Today is our Wedding Anniversary. We've been married 3 years now. No complaints yet! The baby is only 5 weeks or so away now. Here is some of the latest scan footage. It's a direct feed from the scanning machine which I managed to convert to mpg. It has to be seen to be believed! (If you believe this you'll believe anything...)

  • 22-JUN-2000 - Check up at the Mid-Wife clinic (Liz has appointments at the doctors inbetween mid-wife checkups, but they are nothing to talk about).  The baby is now 7.2 pounds and the head is engaged.  The mid-wives advise Liz to finish work, she was intending to work another week!
  • 23-JUN-2000 - Liz took the mid-wife's advice.  It's her last day at work.  It's only 2-3 weeks now until our child is born.
  • 30-JUN-2000 - Liz has been off work now for a whole week. Still no baby...! I know, it's a couple of weeks until its due... But, it would be nice if it came tomorrow - on my birthday!
  • 5-JUL-2000 --- THE BIG DAY
    • 1:45 am Liz's waters break, so we get ready to go to hospital.
    • 2:15 am I email everyone to let them know!
    • 3:00 am We leave for the hospital (around 20 minutes away)
    • 3:30 am Arrive at hospital, Liz is checked over and kept in for the night.  I'm sent home.
    • 4:30 am I arrive home, play my dreamcast for a couple of hours and watch the Big Breakfast.
    • 8:00 am I make my way back to the hospital.
    • 8:30 am Liz is only getting small contractions at this stage.  We walk a bit around the hospital.
    • 3:00 pm Contractions are starting to get quite bad at this stage, and quite regular (4 mins apart).
    • 3:20 pm The mid-wives discover she is actually a lot further on than they thought.  We move into the labour room.  Liz can now use Gas & Air to help ease the contractions.
    • 4:00 pm Liz decides to take some drugs afterall.  Fifteen minutes later I experience what Liz would be like drunk.
    • 7:53 pm After much hard work, Nathan is born, weighing 7lbs and 3ozs.
    • 9:00 pm I go home and get some rest.  Liz is moved to the post-natal section.
  • 6-JUL-2000 - I go back to work today, while Liz is in hospital.  Visiting hours are only from 3pm-9pm.  My colleagues from work send me on a mission at lunchtime with a digital camera.  Click here to see the photographs.
  • 8-JUL-2000 - Liz and Nathan come home.  Right now, (10pm) both of them are sleeping in front of the fire.
