About WDNF

The aim of the World Dyslexia Network Foundation is to provide information, international contacts and links by putting organisations, researchers, practitioners and all those seeing information in touch with each other, helping them to share their knowledge and experience for the benefit of dyslexic people everywhere.

The fundamental principle is that.....

Every child has the right not only to education, but appropriate education, which will only be possible when we have the tools to recognise and remediate the specific learning skills and difficulties of the individual, no matter what language, social context or economic state.

The driving force behind the WDNF is Ian Smythe, whose international research has led to a greater understanding of dyslexia in many languages, and has provided for the first time a tool to identify dyslexic individuals in a number of languages.

The networks founders were:

Ian Smythe - author of the International Dyslexia Test, currently researching many languages around the world, and advising national government agencies about dyslexia.

The late Marion Welchman MBE - Co-Founder of the British Dyslexia Association (1971), who subsequently held numerous posts, including the Chair of the First International Dyslexia Conference (1989)

Lord Renwick - Chairman of the BDA 1972-1975, who serves on numerous IT related committees in the British Parliament.

Dr Steve Chinn - world authority on dyslexia, with particular reference to maths, principal of a specialist school for dyslexics, and chairman of the 3rd International Conference on Dyslexia

The WDNF produced The International Book of Dyslexia, a collaboration between Robin Salter (president of the European Dyslexia Association) and Ian Smythe. The book is a compendium of information about dyslexia in many countries. Contact Ian Smythe (ian.smythe@ukonline.co.uk) for details.

Please note that the WDNF does not have funds for projects, as it is more concerned with networking and sharing information. All work for the WDNF is done on a voluntary basis.
