About WDNF

At the dawn of the next century

University of York

Chair: Professor Rod Nicolson (University of Sheffield)

18-21 April 2001

Cutting edge research will be at the heart of this dynamic and exciting conference, which will celebrate the successes of past decades whilst also looking to the future. Children can be screened for the condition in their earliest years. Adult needs are beginning to be recognised and addressed. Advances have been made in terms of scientific discovery; technology has really taken off. Yet there is still much work to be done. This conference will present the very latest research, whilst looking at best practice for teachers, psychologists, learning support assistants, policy makers and relevant others. One of the innovative directions of the conference will be themed sessions and round-table discussions which will help guide strategic policy in terms of research, practice, ICT development and management.

12 themes will run through the conference

Over 250 papers have been received, and will be presented within the following themes:

  • Biological Bases
  • Cognitive processes
  • Identification
  • Intervention (2 themes)
  • Language and Reading
  • Policy
  • International Perspectives
  • Dyslexia in Adulthood
  • Social and Emotional Aspects
  • Multilingual Aspects
  • Dyslexia and Other Learning Disabilities.
