Episode One - Boxing Day 1957

As Vic's sister weds, Vic meets Ingrid & starts an affair with her

Episode Two - January 1958

Vic starts to regularly date Ingrid Rothwell played by Joanne Whalley, a typist at the engineering firm where he works. Ingrid falls down the stairs at work & breaks a leg. Vic leaves his job as a draughtsman & starts full time in Mr Van Huyten's music shop.

Episode Three - May 1958 to March 1959

Vic and Ingrid are seeing more of each other but he still has his doubts about it. Vic finds it hard to work out his true feelings for Ingrid.

Episode Four - April 1959

Ingrid & Vic have to get married. Ingrid loses her baby when she falls down the stairs. Vic moves out of Ingrids parents house. A reconciliation ends the episode.

Episode Five - October to December 1962

Vic's job requires him to move down south to Longford in Essex, but Ingrid isn't keen to do so.

Episode Six - December 1962

Vic starts work at Joyce & Walstock Ltd as a draughtsman & takes up lodgings at Longford going home to Cressley at week-ends.
Whilst down south he meets Donna Pennyman played by Susan Penhaligan.

Episode Seven - February - August 1963

Vic spends a weekend in London with Donna. She gets more work in London so has to move down to live there & gets herself pregnant by an old boyfriend. She goes home to Cornwall & leaves Vic in the lurch.

Episode Eight - August 1963

Vic breaks up with Ingrid over his affair & says he should never have married her. Ingrid eventually writes to Vic offering to take him back. Vic's dad has an accident down the pit, so Vic returns home to see him, whilst their he has an arguement with Ingrid, who says sees seen a solictor about a divorce. Vic clears their flat of furniture.

Episode Nine - October 1973

Amonst much bitterness Vic & Ingrid finally divorce. 10 years have passed during which time Ingrid remarries & Vic lives and works in London. Donna continues her acting after moving back to London with her son & mother. Vic & Donna meet again.

Episode Ten - October 1973

Vic ends his affair with Miriam. Vic spends time with Donna & her son & meets her mother. Whilst visiting his parents his mother mentions Ingrid & her daughters visit the previous week. The series ends with Donna announcing that Vic is the father of her son.
