WOMEN'S HEALTH TRAINING COURSE

WHISC offers a 16 week Health Training Course for women, twice yearly, which operates from October to February and then from February to July.

The course is accredited by Merseyside Open College Federation. It is usually attended by about 15 women, from different backgrounds and ages and with different skills and abilities. There are many benefits in having such a varied group when discussing health in relation to lifestyle and culture.

Their knowledge from the course can be used in both paid and voluntary work and in their everyday life. The course questions women's opinions and attitudes to health and focuses on topics such as the menopause and periods, diet and eating disorders, contraception and equal opportunities.Sometimes visits are organised to other organisations, such as Blackburn House, Abacus and Brooke.

The course runs on Mondays from 10am - 3pm, in line with school holidays.

We have also run courses in the community in collaboration with community organisations, and intend to continue this initiative, beginning, hopefully, in February, with a course in Dingle, at DREAMS.
