WICK ACADEMY SQUAD 2002/2003

MANAGER

Pat MILLER - Was Academy's goalkeeper for many years before progressing to the manager's role. Was the joint manager with John MacDonald in Academy's first year in the Highland League. Has also had spells as manager of Wick Thistle and Halkirk Utd. Has been under pressure of late but will be hoping his team can build on the decent performance against Huntly in the cup last week.

 COACH

Ian MUNRO - Another former Academy player who has gained his S.F.A coaching qualifications and has previously had spells of management at Wick Groats and Halkirk in Caithness amateur football.

GOALKEEPER

Don McMillan - The former Ross County and Brora Rangers keeper made his debut for Academy last week. Has been plagued with injury over the last couple of years but if he can maintain his fitness and control his suspect temperament his experience will be vital for the young Wick team.

 DEFENDERS

Alan SINCLAIR - Has came through the Academy youth system to establish himself as one of the teams most important players and has the potential to play at a higher level. Plays in the centre of defence and won the club's player of the year last season.

Colin DAVIDSON - The under 18's captain has now broken through into the first team and is showing considerable promise.

Alec LAMB - This local youngster who was a new signing at the start of the season has spend the last two years with Ross County. Will be looking to make an impression with Academy with the hope of getting another chance at full-time football.

Andrew MACLEOD - This no nonsense defender showed a lot of promise in his debut season but will face a late fitness test as he has been out injured the last couple of weeks. Has pace and gives 100% every game.

Kevin MILLER - Made his comeback for Academy in last week's qualifying cup game after an absence of a couple of years. Another no nonsense defender will give Academy more height as set pieces. Currently working off shore so his appearances will be limited.

  MIDFIELDERS

Gordon MACDONALD - The former Brora Rangers midfielder has bags of skill and is back at Academy after a year out in Australia. Will add experience and creativity to the Academy midfield where it is hoped he will form a successful partnership with Martin Gunn.

Craig SHEARER - Has progressed from the U18 team to become a first team regular and is equally at home either in centre of the defence or in midfield. Was presented with a well deserved award from the club for the most improved player of the 2000/01 season.

David COWIE - The nephew of Don Cowie the former Academy manager was a new signing this summer. Had probably his best game for his new team last week where his strong running on the right caused Huntly all sorts of problems.

Martin GUNN - Following a spell at Dundee Utd this talented midfielder returned North to join Academy in their first season in the Highland League and has been one of the club's top performers. A pelvic injury saw him out of football for over a year but is now showing signs of returning to his true form.

Michael BREMNER - Another local based player who came through the youth teams to get a few appearances last season. Is now starting to get a run in the team and looks to be developing as a result of this.

 FORWARDS

Steve MURRAY - The Invergordon based former Brora and Nairn wide player is highly talented and whilst temperamental when on his game can cause any defence problems.

Jamie MacKENZIE - Has developed into one of Academy's most important players in the last couple of years after spells at Brora Rangers and Thurso. A strong player equally comfortable in midfield or as a centreforward.

Gary MANSON - The youngster has joined the Academy squad after a spell with Ross County youth's. Is very comfortable on the ball and looks to have a bright future in the game. Was included in the Highland League select squad last season.

Stewart ROSS - The Wick youngster had been training regularly with Ross County before signing for Wick Academy, and was the club's top goal scorer last season. Can play up front, midfield or at full back.

Gordon MACDONALD - Another youngster who benefited from full-time football at Ross County as well as spells at St Johnstone. Has pace and always willing to go for goal but his Academy career has been hampered by injuries since joining the club.
